99th anniversary of the First Record + 99 aniversario del Primer Disco [Eng+Spa]
I've had a calm Sunday, it's been another day in my calm #life. This February 25 passed without major incidents, and that is a good thing. Now that I think about it, something did happen, but it was at the neighbors' house, they were away from home and there was a water leak in their main water pipe. It wasn't very big, but water leaks can be dangerous for a house. My brother sent them a message and the neighbors returned a few hours later, it seems that they solved the problem during the afternoon.
Well, I guess that would be it for my personal matters. So I'm going to comment on an anniversary in the #History of #Music and #Technology, which turns 99 today. It has been almost a century since this event, and although its dissemination and impact was not widespread in its first years, when it was widely commercialized (later) it became an important milestone. In 1925, on this day, the Columbia Records company recorded the first record with electrical (or rather electromechanical) technology, implementing the Vacuum Valves (or Thermoionic Valves) invented in 1904, by John Ambrose Fleming.

With this technology, which was perfected by Lee De Forest (1906) and Walter H. Schottky (1919), the creation of the first completely electric sound recording system was achieved, the successor to the Gramophone, it was the Record Player.
The song that has the honor of having been recorded on that occasion was 'You May Be Lonesome', sung by Art Gillham, a renowned composer, pianist, and pioneer in radio voice over. This #musical work gave way to a new way of recording and reproducing music. It was an important moment in the development of later technologies.
It amazes me a little when I think that already at the beginning of the current millennium, this issue of records was a #retro or #vintage thing, a matter for DJs or specialized musicians, as well as collectors. But, I had no idea this technology was so old, I seriously thought it was much more recent.

By the way, I mentioned that at first this album was not widely distributed, but I must explain that this was a business and commercial decision, made by Columbia Records (reaching an agreement with its competitor, Victor Talking Machine (later RCA Victor)) in order to completely sell their stock of previous technology productions, and also expand the catalog of records so that when they started selling there would be a greater variety.

Por cierto, comenté que al principio este disco no fue muy difundido, pero debo explicar que eso fue una decisión empresarial y comercial, tomada por Columbia Records (llegando a un acuerdo con su competidor, Victor Talking Machine (posterior RCA Victor)) a fin de vender por completo sus existencias de producciones de tecnología anterior, y además ampliar el catálogo de discos para que cuando comenzaran a vender hubiera una mayor variedad.
En este caso, una decisión comercial, retrasó un poco la presencia de una tecnología más avanzada en un mercado particular. Y supongo que eso no es realmente un caso aislado, si vemos ciertas historias de tecnologías suprimidas o retardadas por intereses de grupos de poder.

Creo que al principio se buscaba hacer una máquina para hablar con los espíritus, y de allí fue derivando en la tecnología que conocimos luego.
Creo que lo de hablar con los muertos era la cuestión del fonógrafo de Edison, al menos una versión preliminar del aparato.
Eso me recuerda que aún hoy en día se usan grabadoras para registrar las 'voces fantasmas' (Psicofonía), en el ruido blanco, así que hay algo de sentido en todo eso.
