Take it easy on yourself

Hello everyone, this is actually my first time posting in this community and am so excited about it ๐Ÿ˜

On Monday, the 13th of November, was my birthday, but it didn't feel like it.

Though I have been having a little challenge with my health, that really was not it; my mood was just off the radar.I was just not feeling the birthday. I am not really the type to throw parties or go for birthday shoots and all that, but usually on my birthdays, I am usually happy and excited, if not for anything, for the fact that I am healthy and alive. But it was different this year.

I had a lot going on in my head; at the beginning of the year, I had a lot I wanted to achieve this year, so on my birthday, I was doing a mental check of the things I had achieved, and there were not many, so it just broke my spirit, and I was down and all moody. A few people noticed my mood and asked what was wrong. I just used my health as an excuse.

Somehow this afternoon, while I was still feeling down and angry at myself for achieving just little this year, an old song titled Hero by Mariah Carey just popped up in my mind. As I was singing the lyrics, it began to make sense to me.

Most times, as humans, we end up focusing on our failures and forgetting to count our blessings.

Most of the time, we blame ourselves for not hitting the 100 mark while ignoring and trivializing the efforts, sacrifices, resources, etc. that produced the 95.

YouTube

While it is good to aspire to be better, learn to celebrate the little wins along the way. Many people do not know how to place value on what they have achieved, so long as it is not what they wanted to achieve at the beginning of the adventure.

While it is good to aspire for greatness, do not downplay the results you record en route to that greatness.

While it is good to aspire for the best, do not despise the days of little beginnings.

Let us learn to count our blessings, and in naming them one by one, it would surprise us how much progress we have made cumulatively.

THANK YOU FOR READING TO THE END ๐Ÿค—

Most of the time, we blame ourselves for not hitting the 100 mark while ignoring and trivializing the efforts, sacrifices, resources, etc. that produced the 95.

This the realest statement I've seen in a long time. And this shook my table. I'm a perfectionist so every time I set out to do something, but I don't end up completing it or doing it the way I envisioned in my head, I get discouraged and frustrated.

I really needed to hear that statement. Thank you for writing this piece. I feel seen and understood, after reading your work.
Please keep writing!

@ozd...

Well hello! We meet again LOL. Thank you again, for throwing out that #thoughtfuldailypost TAG in the Ecency Waves. Of course... it is good to see you choose to use the TAG for your post; we are always happy to see folks sharing some thoughtfulness! The topic you have shared with us... more importantly, a vibe that so many of us have felt, I am sure. We set expectations for ourselves and push to achieve them. Then what happens? That's right... life!

"Most times, as humans, we end up focusing on our failures and forgetting to count our blessings."

Again... you are so right! It is like that old saying... "Someone always has it worse"... yes? Your connection with music, and its ability to calm the brain, is also in line with the energy we love to share in our community. So I am glad you decided to stop by!
Looking forward to seeing what content you might share with us next! Love and light...
