African heritage - Music.
My favourite thing. Just vibing to somgs of different genres is always an amazing experience, especially when you're already in the mood.
I, being a Nigerian, have a culture that depicts an ethnic backdrop as the basis of most songs, ranging from Yoruba songs, Igbo songs to Hausa songs and the rest. The artists in question dive deeper to procure the natural rhythm that Nigerians are accustomed to.
That doesn't stop them from reaching for other heights, though. We see some artists drop magnificent tracks that go international. Artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Asake and a whole lot more!
These artists are bringing Afrobeat to its peak. The alm of this was to prevent our songs from being just, well, songs. These artists strive go to uphold the cultural and ethnic heritage of our society by producing tunes that match our cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Despite this, we've still been able to enjoy these songs in whatver genre possible, ranging from slow, rap, acoustic and the likes to eventually global masterpieces as I mentioned earlier.
Here's a song that got some international recognition;
This song by Wizkid, Tems and Justin Bieber went mad. This collaboration threw the world into a frenzy!
This is a perfect example of how African artists have made their mark internationally.
Now, although I personally love songs that is birthed from culture, Artists must be wary of not losing themselves in the process, as in a bid to preserve African music, they tend to tread on a path that would dent their efficiency in the industry.
So, that being said, I implore all of you, all of us, to keep basking in our culture and keep vibing to our African sounds.
After all, we're African for a reason and there's no reason for us to be ashamed of our origin and these artists have put in the effort in trying to preserve our culture, at least to some extent, in this way.
Let us all find a way to preserve our culture and spread mellifluous melodies that elevate the standards of African music!
Thanks for reading!
