Snarky Puppy - Cliroy

Desde hace varios años vengo escuchando Snarky, y se han convertido en una de mis agrupaciones favoritas. Desde el año pasado Snarky Puppy ha venido estrenando canciones poco a poco en su canal de YouTube, y este año se preparan para iniciar una gira internacional que comienza el 29 de marzo.

Algo que hay que destacar es que para esta gira de 2023 Snarky tendrá como teloneros a la agrupación venezolana C4 Trío, quienes con el cuatro interpretan diversos arreglos musicales de canciones tradicionales y populares, siendo una de las agrupaciones mas reconocidas de Venezuela. Está demás decir que como venezolana me llenan de felicidad esta noticia.

Su más reciente estreno es Cliroy, canción donde le dan el protagonismo a la trompeta, algo que se ha vuelto característico de la banda. Particularmente, lo que llamo más mi atención fue que la batería está siendo tocada con una intención hip-hop, un beat hacia atrás que crea ese groove pesado. Algo que me parece que ayuda a hacer la canción fácil de digerir, además que es un motivo que escuchamos justo al inicio del tema, lo que llama bastante la atención y puede acercar a personas que no conocen a la banda, y que tal vez no les guste tanto el jazz, a disfrutar este tipo de canciones un poco más relajadas dentro del género fusión.

I have been listening to Snarky for several years now, and they have become one of my favorite bands. Since last year Snarky Puppy has been releasing songs little by little on their YouTube channel, and this year they are getting ready to start an international tour starting March 29th.

Something to note is that for this 2023 tour Snarky will have as opening act the Venezuelan group C4 Trio, who with the cuatro perform various musical arrangements of traditional and popular songs, being one of the most recognized groups in Venezuela. Needless to say that as a Venezuelan I am very happy about this news.

Their most recent release is Cliroy, a song where they give the trumpet the leading role, something that has become characteristic of the band. Particularly, what caught my attention was that the drums are being played with a hip-hop intention, a backwards beat that creates that heavy groove. Something that I think helps to make the song easy to digest, plus it is a motif that we hear right at the beginning of the song, which attracts a lot of attention and can bring people who do not know the band, and perhaps do not like jazz so much, to enjoy this type of songs a little more relaxed within the fusion genre.

MARO - oxalá

Country: PORTUGAL

Las canciones de MARO forman parte de la musica mas hermosas y tierna que he escuchado, su voz es carrasposa y mas grave de lo usual, lo cual le da un color increíble a sus baladas.

Oxalá es una canción realmente dulce, que habla sobre la incertidumbre que se tiene cuando se esta enamorado y sobre el riesgo de implica el amor. Lo que mas me encanta de la letra, es que refleja un cumulo de emociones y miedos que se padecen al estar enamorado. Cada estrofa es diferente, y a medida que avanza la canción te va mostrando indicios de que la perspectiva de la persona va cambiando.

Al inicio suena muy confiada en la importancia de vivir el momento, luego avanza al miedo a ser remplazada, por ultimo reflexiona sobre “¿por qué no me voy ahora?” y da por conclusion que se siente tan esperanzada en que las cosas saldrán bien, que elige quedarse esperando que la otra persona también quiera lo mismo. ¿Romántico cierto? Ahi se las dejo para que aprovechen y la dediquen en San Valentin 😅

MARO's songs are some of the most beautiful and tender music I have ever heard, her voice is raspy and deeper than usual, which gives an incredible color to her ballads.

Oxalá is a really sweet song that talks about the uncertainty you have when you are in love and the risk that love implies. What I love most about the lyrics, is that they reflect the accumulation of emotions and fears that are experienced when in love. Each verse is different, and as the song progresses it shows you hints that the person's perspective is changing.

At first she sounds very confident about the importance of living in the moment, then she moves on to the fear of being replaced, finally she reflects on "why don't I leave now?" and concludes that she feels so hopeful that things will work out that she chooses to stay and hope that the other person wants the same thing. Romantic, right? Here it is for you to take advantage and dedicate it on Valentine's day 😅

Daniel Caesar - Do You Like Me?

Lo que ha estado estrenando Daniel Caesar esta de locos! En esta oportunidad trae un tema con una linea de bajo sencilla pero super catchy, de esas canciones que brillan por el groove que tienen.

Lo que mas me gustó en este tema fue el sonido de la guitarra, la cual me recuerda al sonido que tiene Mac DeMarco, también me encantó la linea de bajo que es tan fundamental y que varia un poco mas hacia el final del tema. Por supuesto la voz de Caesar con su falsete, quien cada vez que canta hacia sus agudos es como si le diera mas poder a la canción. Buena rola.

What Daniel Caesar has been releasing is crazy! This time he brings a track with a simple but super catchy bass line, one of those songs that shine for the groove they have.

What I liked the most in this track was the sound of the guitar, which reminds me of Mac DeMarco's sound, I also loved the bass line that is so fundamental and that changes a little more towards the end of the track. Of course Caesar's voice with his falsetto, who every time he sings into his high notes it's like he's giving more power to the song. This is a good one!

Angel Strife ft Maritza Merk - La Faca

Country: VENEZUELA - USA

Angel Strife es un artista venezolano a quien tuve el gusto de conocer hace unos años atrás, en su música maneja diversos géneros pero en esta canción logra brillar a través del R&B.

Esta es la segunda versión de La Faca, la cual incluye esta vez la hermosa voz de la cantante norteamericana Maritza Merk. Es un tema relajante con mucho vibe.

Angel Strife is a Venezuelan artist who I had the pleasure to meet a few years ago, in his music he manages several genres but in this song he manages to shine through R&B.

This is the second version of La Faca, which this time includes the beautiful voice of American singer Maritza Merk. It is a relaxing song with a lot of vibe.

BLANCO - L'Isola Delle Rose

Country: ITALIA

Ya llevo dos años siguiéndole la pista a BLANCO y solo lo he visto crecer, sobre todo luego de estar en el concurso Eurovision de 2022 como representante de Italia. Este espacio ayudó a que su fama aumentara exponencialmente, teniendo hoy día en su video mas reciente 2,4 millones de visualizaciones en Youtube. Al fin, tras de 8 meses de silencio, BLANCO estrenó un video musical en su canal este mes de Febrero.

Como es usual, mantiene la estética que tiene de ser una especie de cupido en sus videos musicales, pero esta vez le vemos corriendo con una armadura puesta, y en otras partes derrotado en el suelo. Lo que me encanta de sus videos es que siempre tienen partes de descontrol, correr, saltos, que me recuerdan a la estética grunge de los 90s, pero aplicada al pop de hoy en día.

Musicalmente el tema es pegajoso, tiene una fuerte presencia de sintetizadores y es un tema que se alinea con su composiciones mas electrónicas y comerciales como Landro Di Fiori.

I've been following BLANCO for two years now and I've only seen him grow, especially after being in the Eurovision 2022 contest as Italy's representative. This space helped his fame to increase exponentially, having today in his most recent video more than 2.4 million views on Youtube. Finally, after 8 months of silence, BLANCO released a music video on his channel this February.

As usual, he keeps the aesthetics of being a cupid in his music videos, but this time we see him running with a suit of armor on, and in other parts defeated on the ground. What I love about his videos is that they always have parts of uncontrolled, running, jumping, which reminds me of the grunge aesthetics of the 90s, but applied to today's pop.

Musically the track is catchy, has a strong presence of synthesizers and is a track that aligns with his more electronic and commercial compositions like Landro Di Fiori.
