At that time and even today I still like it because it has that aura of mystery, maybe I do not know how to explain it, because psychedelic music is difficult to define, especially because it does not cause the same sensations in those who listen to it, each one will give a different interpretation depending on their experiences. By the way the song itself uses the metaphor of space, i.e. a huge void. I think he does it to explore something deeply human, that is, the feeling of disconnection. In my opinion this emptiness that the song talks about is several things and it can change depending on how you see it, for example it can be a place of solitude, or a space where the mind is free of distractions, you know what I mean. In the literal sense floating in the void might seem hopeless, but the song portrays it as a state where you can observe yourself without judgment or attachment, as if you are suspended in your own consciousness. At least I see it that way.

From a more emotional perspective, as this is also a possible interpretation of the letter “floating” it can also be seen as a moment of pause or rest, whatever you want to call it. That is to say a necessary disconnection in the midst of chaos. I think the main lesson we can all take away from “Floating in a Vacuum” is that being lost or disconnected is not always a negative thing. I mean, in our current culture, many times we put pressure on ourselves to be always “connected”, productive or with immediate answers, something that is not always possible, since we are all human. In itself the song tells us that sometimes, emptiness is what we need to find meaning. It may seem contradictory but it is so.

By the way, I had not told you about the video of the song itself, I think it is as peculiar as the song itself. Personally I really like the surreal and even somewhat homemade aesthetics that characterizes Plastic Mermaids, I say this because I have seen several of their videos and it is a recurring feature in almost all their videos. There are space scenes, there is also the appearance of aliens in scenes that are absurd or rather symbolic. As I said we are talking about a psychedelic song, which seeks rather to make us think or feel that feeling of emptiness, that's why these elements are in the video. Well, the aliens that are shown remind me of the X-Files series, which by the way is one of my favorite series.
