In a world where the internet, society, and the lifestyles of influencers can easily impose their beliefs on anyone who doesn't truly understand their own path, it's easy to be swayed, controlled or lead astray. If you don’t know your choices in life, others will end up making them for you.
Let me introduce myself before going any further, my name is @oluthomas.
We are now in Week 268 of the Hive Open Mic Weekly Contest, and the theme this week is "My Choice." This theme can be interpreted in many ways, depending on how it personally speaks to you. For me, I’ll be singing a cover of “Free Indeed” by Timothy Reddick. This song strongly reflects the theme of the week "My Choice."
As I highlighted or shared in my introduction, many people today are living in the bondage of others’ expectations or peoples choices. They can't define their own choices because they’ve allowed the world to shape their path. But my choice is clear in my performance, I refuse to let anyone force me into a way of life that doesn’t align with who I am or where I’m going or heading to.
To live a liberated life, you must know what your choices are and walk in them boldly and with self confidence. If not, you'll end up walking in someone else’s shadow. The song “Free Indeed” declares that I am free, what are you really free from? Someone like me is free from limitations, free from what others think of me, and free from thinking low of myself. These are all chains, false images meant to distract us from our realself. And if we don't silence those negative voices, we risk living a defeated life based on someone else's choices.
I'll stop here, but let me leave you with this piece of advice; know what you truly want in life. Make it a personal obligation. Prioritize it, no matter what others are doing. When your choice is revealed to you by God, pursue it with everything you've got. Make sacrifices, stay focused, and live free.
