Roger Waters sings El derecho de vivir en paz(The right to live in peace)
Hello, I'm from Japan and I want to share something with you guys. Sorry for my poor English.
I was surprised to find a video on Facebook of Roger Waters, formerly of Pink Floyd, singing a song "The right to live in peace" by Victor Jara, Chile's national singer-songwriter.
How many can imagine what this means?
Jara was arrested by the Chilean military shortly after the 11 September 1973 coup led by Augusto Pinochet, which overthrew Allende. He was shot dead after his guitar-playing hand was shattered. I learned that the coup was backed by the CIA of the United States. I think Roger Waters knows all about those things.
Bruce Springsteen also sang a song "Manifesto" by Jara in Santiago. I thought the rock and roll scene was deeper than I had thought.
