Grapthar's Daily Hive Music Feature: Joe Lally - 'Nothing to Lose'
Joe Lally - Nothing to Lose
Joe Lally is a bassist known for
his time in the legendary post-hardcore band Fugazi, though he has played with a number of other groups over the years. He was born in Maryland in 1963, and grew up in the local Washington, D.C. punk/hardcore scene where he would eventually meet Ian MacKaye, and form Fugazi in 1986/87. Along with Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty, the band would record and tour for the next 16 or so years, before going on an indefinite hiatus. During that time, Lally also started his own label, Tolotta Records, which was distributed through MacKaye's Dischord. After the break-up of Fugazi Lally would record a few solo albums, which would feature a lot of the D.C. area musicians, and has recently formed a new group with former Fugazi member Brendan Canty, the Messthetics, and performs with Ian MacKaye and Mackaye's wife Amy Farina in Coriky, who released their first album last year. This tune comes from Lally's 2011 solo album Why Should I Get Used to It (Dischord). It's a pretty cool album, and definitely has some Fugazi-esque moments, though it's a little more 'rock' influenced. If you enjoy the song, definitely check out the full album, and some of those previously mentioned bands, it's well worth it.
