Learning to play an instrument: My experience

I have loved music since I was a child. I started singing in programs at an early age in my family church, and even while in university,I joined the school choir in presenting songs at every event in our school. One thing I didn't have much interest in at all was learning the instrument; although, while in my family church, I learned how to play the local instrument, I concentrated more on singing. Somehow I found myself lagging behind in participating in music concerts since I started having children. I think my problem has been finding balance all year between work, motherhood duties, going to rehearsals, and participating in songs in my choir. I do join the singers, but I haven't been consistent until recently, when I sat down and planned how to revisit my passion again. This time around,I did not only join the group singers in my church to sing alone but to learn musical instruments as well.

I will be attending music class every Saturday evening, learning piano 🎹 as well as new songs with my group. This decision is not sudden, as I had conceived the idea a long time ago; however, I will see how it goes from here. My experience in yesterday's rehearsal wasn't too great; , I found it difficult to understand the mathematics behind playing the piano. It was so confusing, but our instructor is a patient type. It's just my firstytime anyway, so I don't want to be hard on myself, and I refuse to nurse the idea of giving up either. I want to see when I can play the instrument and sing along.

It was a nice experience with my group as we composed a brand new song from a passage in the Bible. We are hoping to perfect the song soon and organize a live ministration in my church. I must confess that I love the whole experience of my current decision to join this group and develop this skill.

Through song practice yesterday, I was able to learn new things that I assumed I knew before until I learned them correctly. While others were singing and receiving corrections from the instructor,I was adding to my own knowledge. I was also on stage to perform some songs after the music class, and I received criticism and commendation for my growth. This is a skill I would love to be good at, and it can only be possible through consistency, continuous practice, and, of course, building confidence that I can do it. I hope to do better with it.
