Travel Journal: Rock at Werchter (Belgium) 2023 (Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Kasabian, Liam Gallagher)
A few weeks ago, some friends and I visited one of the biggest rock festivals in Europe. Rock Werchter first started in 1974 and was called Torhout-Werchter back in the days. Nowadays, it is going on for 4 days and approximately 150.000 visitors are coming to see some great live acts.
After arriving at my reserved parking lot, I walked to the festival. Here are my first views of the festival:
I arrived earlier than my friends because I wanted to see the “Viagra Boys” and they played kind of early. It was on one of the side stages that looked amazing as well. Viagra Boys put on an amazing show and the hall was packed.
Afterwards, I met up with my friends and the rest of the bands we watched played on the main stage. The first band we saw was Kasabian, a band that could easily be the main act on other festivals!
The third band I saw was The Black Keys. I love them! I have two albums on vinyl, and I was hyped to see them play live for the first time. They play good old American rock and did not disappoint with their performance!
Liam Gallagher was up next. Famous as the lead singer of the British band Oasis, I did not know many of his songs as a solo artist. However, he also played hits by Oasis like “Wonderwall”. I do not know why, but we were way in the front for his concert.
The main act of the day was the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Another band I really like, and they are more than famous. Founded in 1981, they released hits in every decade! I cannot believe that the lead singer Anthony Kiedis is 60 years old. We watched the show from farther away because it was way too crowded everywhere else.
I was really exhausted after more than 10 hours at the festival. Good for me, that I booked a hotel in Brussels. I only had to drive for 45 minutes to get there, and I planned on visiting the city the next day. This will also be my next post!
Have a great week!
