Weekend Discoveries

A lot of the time when I step in to the studio, and by "step into", I mean, turn my music PC on, with a blank project facing me, I'm often discovering new synths and sounds to play around with.

Creating something from nothing is really good fun (although there are plenty of other times when all I seemed to do was stare at a blank project and it would remain blank lol)!

Still, on the occasion of today's tune, Discovery, the discovery wasn't so much in the synths and dnb sounds, it was more from the melody.

I don't know how it happened but I was just playing on my electronic keyboard in "normal mode" - i.e. it wasn't plugged in to my PC, just sitting free.

Then I started humming something in my head, tried to mimic it on the keyboard and then it turned into a really nice melody!

That is the sound of the bell melody you hear across this track.

When I was happy with the final melody sounds, I plugged the keyboard in to the PC and it was as though the stars aligned as it was one of those tunes that I found remarkably "easy" to produce.

The bell sounds were found straight away, the chord synth, easy mode. Bassline came up to me and said "take a step back, I got this". Then the accompanying synth strings/melodies were all like, "what about me?" so I said, "let's go then crew, what you waiting for?"

There was a tune called Happiness Happening back in the early 2000s, late 90s that inspired the plucked synths.

Ah, what a discovery this was :)

I should give this one more air time and release it on Spotify - I'm not sure how it remains on my YouTube profile as I didn't upload it there - might be a relic of a previous label I was on but a good chance to get things updated.

I should probably start scheduling releases this weekend for the year ahead! Can't have it all sitting on my hard drive collecting digital dust now!
