Embracing True Beauty

Music video

Hello, friends! About 8 days ago, I shared a post in the @ladiesofhive community discussing various challenges that make it difficult for people, especially women, to have a positive body view.

One of the challenges I highlighted was the pressure on individuals, especially models, to achieve the so-called "perfect" body through multiple surgeries and body enhancement products. Here's the link to the article link.

And just yesterday, while I was working and listening to music, I came across the song "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara, a talented Canadian singer and songwriter. Certain lyrics from the song resonated with me deeply, prompting me to share them with you all today.

"She has dreams to be an envy, so she's starving You know, covergirls eat nothing She says, beauty is pain and there's beauty in everything What's a little bit of hunger? I could go a little while longer, she fades away

She don't see her perfect
She don't understand she's worth it
Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface
Oh-oh, oh-oh

So to all the girls that's hurting
Let me be your mirror
Help you see a little bit clearer
The light that shines within

There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark
You should know you're beautiful just the way you are
And you don't have to change a thing
The world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful
We're stars and we're beautiful"

In this part of the song, Alessia Cara talks about how some girls, in their pursuit of emulating models and cover girls, engage in harmful practices just to fit society's beauty standards. Some even resort to extreme measures like starving themselves, believing that a little hunger won't hurt. However, starvation can have serious consequences, including nutritional deficiencies, muscle wasting, organ damage, weakened immune system, mental health issues, and stunted growth in children. The pursuit of beauty should never compromise our health.

Beauty is often said to be in the eye of the beholder, and it goes far beyond mere physical appearance. True beauty comes from within — it's about who we are as individuals.

One important thing to remember is that if you try to change your looks just to meet a certain standard of beauty, people will always have something to say. I once watched a clip of a model who underwent body enhancement surgery, and while she was interviewing people, the comments section was filled with criticism. People will always find fault, no matter what you do. Trying to please everyone is impossible, and in the process, your mental health may suffer. It leads to stress, sadness, and even depression.

We don't need to go through such drastic measures just to look attractive. Embrace who you are because physical beauty fades over time. If you choose to make changes to your body, let it be your choice, driven by your own desires and not the pressure to fit in. Do what makes you genuinely happy, not to satisfy others, because no matter what you do, someone will always have something negative to say.

These are my humble opinions. Thank you for reading!
