In particular, the film reminds me of the film A Star Is Born, which has been made into a movie four times, as it relates to themes such as fame, fortune and addiction, this time the fatalistic character being the female.
It is clear that originally the film was going to be about the life of Janis Joplin, which could not be because the authorization of Joplin's family was not obtained, even the film was going to be called Pearl like the last album released by the artist, and it was scheduled to be filmed in 1973. The script was rewritten with the help of director Michael Cimino and the collaboration of Bette Midler, who respectfully considered that the artist had recently died. References to Joplin were eliminated, leaving a fictional biopic that essentially has many points in common with the singer in real life.
If you like musicals, the film is a must see to enjoy the performance of Bette Midler, for many the true winner of the Oscar Award for Best Actress that year, with all due consideration to the winner Sally Field for the film Norma Rae.

The Rose es una obra que aborda de manera valiente y sincera las complejidades de la fama, el amor y la autenticidad en la industria musical. La historia presentada es conmovedora y desgarradora. En lo particular la película me hace recordar a el film Nace una Estrella llevada al cine en cuatro oportunidades, al relacionarla con temas como fama, fortuna y adicciones, siendo esta vez el personaje fatalista el femenino.
A leguas se ve que originalmente el film iba a tratar la vida de Janis Joplin, lo cual no pudo ser ya que no se consiguió la autorización de la familia de Joplin, incluso el film iba a llamarse Pearl igual que el ultimo disco editado por la artista,y estaba pautado para filmarse en 1973. El guion se reescribió con la ayuda del también director Michael Cimino y la colaboración de Bette Midler quien consideraba con mucho respeto que hacia hacia poco tiempo que la artista habia muerto. Se eliminaron las referencias a Joplin y quedo un biopic ficticio que en esencia presenta muchos puntos en común con la cantante en la vida real.
Si les gustan los musicales, el film es de visión obligada para deleitarse con la interpretación de Bette Midler, para muchos la verdadera merecedora del Premio Oscar a la mejor actriz de ese año, con toda la consideración hacia la ganadora Sally Field por el film Norma Rae.
