Collecting CDs is a hobby that has endured over the years despite the advancement of technology and the popularization of streaming music platforms. For some, the idea of collecting these discs may seem obsolete or unnecessary in the digital era in which we live, however, for me, collecting CDs is more than just having access to the music I love, it is a way to connect with my passion for music and a way to keep alive a tradition that has been part of my life for many years.
Ever since this format became popular, I was fascinated to go to music stores and browse the shelves full of CD's, looking for new releases and albums from my favorite bands. Each new album I bought was more than just a simple acquisition, it was a gateway to a world of sounds and emotions that transported me to unexplored places. Listening to an album from start to finish, reading the lyrics and perusing the cover art became a sacred ritual for me, a way to fully immerse myself in an artist's work and appreciate it in its entirety.
Collecting CDs allows me to have a tangible object that represents every stage of my life. Each record in my collection reminds me of an unforgettable concert, a transcendental moment or a particularly significant time in my life. The CDs are a sort of musical diary that allows me to relive those moments every time I listen to them, creating an emotional connection with the music and making each album more than just a compilation of songs.
On the other hand, having a CD collection also gives me a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. The act of searching, selecting and acquiring an album that I was looking for a long time is a rewarding experience that makes me feel like I am pursuing my passion and broadening my musical horizons. In addition, having a physical CD collection gives me a sense of ownership and belonging, as I can see and touch my collection in all its splendor, which is not possible with my digital music collection.
Here are some of the little gems that I keep in my collection:
James Brown Live at the Apollo.
I was walking through downtown Caracas and my attention was drawn to a CD store that was selling off all its merchandise, the detail was that I was carrying only 180 Bolivars (approximately 5 dollars).
Rummaging through a huge amount of cd's full of dust I found one of James Brown called James Brown Live at the Apollo, and at a ridiculous price of 70 Bolivars (1.89 current dollars).
When I put it in my stereo I initially took into account that the original recording was from 1962, and I was listening to it in 2004, at home with my three year old daughter and a wife who is not exactly an R&B lover.

I worked in the early 2000's in a bank and in front of it there was a famous record store called Recordland, many times I visited it and from time to time I found something interesting, like for example this edition of All Things Must Pass from 2001.

I had this album in pirate edition and it sounded very bad, precisely in Recordland, the store that I named before I managed to get a copy with good sound, it seems that I was inside the concert when listening to the album.

Yes, is the second progressive rock group that I like (the first one is Genesis), being Close to the Edge the first album I listened to of them, I met this group in 1981 because of that album that a classmate lent me to record it in a TDK cassette. I began to search the band's discography little by little and I really appreciated the band's virtuosity.
In 1983 I was in my third year of high school and Yes released the album 90125, what surprised me was that many other students talked about the group and really did not know their previous discography, I smiled and talked about it only with my rocker friends of the time, but real rockers.
In 2004, I found this remastered edition of 90125 in an iconic record store in Caracas, which sounds great, and comes with additional material such as demos of the songs from the original album and remixes.

I have Jimi Hendrix records, released postumatically, and I recognize that The Jimi Hendrix Experience, (Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell) was one of the best power trios that ever existed.
In the particular case of this album, I must say that I could never get it, until 10 years ago, walking through a shopping mall in Caracas, called Centro Plaza there was an auction of clothes and music in a store that sold used items, I entered the store and lying on the floor, between shirts and pants was the disc that logically I took immediately.
In the world of music, there are albums that mark a before and after in history. One such album is Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced. Released in 1967, this album not only revolutionized the rock genre, but also left an indelible mark on musical culture.

At first I bought this CD in pirate format in a place in the city of Caracas called Mercado de La Hoyada, where practically everything is available. The disc was very poorly recorded, and the cover of the same was a crude photocopy, I had to settle for that, until recently that a co-worker gave me as a gift an old cd which already had another original, this being the legendary Made in Japan.
The album Made in Japan by the British band Deep Purple is considered one of the greatest live albums of all time. Recorded during the band's 1972 Japanese tour, this album captures the energy and power of Deep Purple at their best.

I am a huge fan of this masterpiece, among so many others, by Pink Floyd. The film is even one of the most precious treasures I have in my DVD collection. I was lucky to see the movie allusive to this work in an art house cinema in the mid 90's, I was amazed with what Alan Parker and Gerald Scarfe's animation did.
Eight years ago, a great friend of mine decided to leave the country for faraway Austria (his birthplace). I went to his house to help him to pick up some things and to sort some other things he was going to sell, among them his precious Pink Floyd cd: The Wall. I saw the album every now and then and I swear I almost bought it for him, until the moment he realized it and simply gave it to me as a gift. Now that's a good friend.

Although I'm a rocker, I must admit that I also like good pop, and I remember that big hype in 1982 and 1983 with the album thriller and Michael Jackson. The video directed by John Landis was a mini-movie and it was impossible not to see it on TV in either its long or short version.
Behind this work in addition to Michael Jackson was the excellent production of Quincy Jones, much of the musicians of the group Toto, Paul McCartney, Greg Phillinganes, Eddie Vahn Halen and even the legendary Vincent Price.
I didn't have any Michael Jackson albums, only compilations and in 2007 an anniversary edition was released commemorating the 25th anniversary of Thriller, in a cd with the original songs, several versions with guest artists and a spectacular DVD with the videos of the songs Billie Jean, Beat It, and of course Thriller. Also included is a spectacular performance by Billie Jean to celebrate 25 years of Motown records. I bought this version and I do not regret it, its sound is very well remixed, although I must say that there are versions of some artists that I did not like, but the original songs are very good.

Coleccionar CD's es una afición que ha perdurado a lo largo de los años a pesar del avance de la tecnología y la popularización de las plataformas de música en streaming. Para algunos, la idea de coleccionar estos discos puede parecer obsoleta o innecesaria en la era digital en la que vivimos, sin embargo, para mí, coleccionar CD's es algo más que tener acceso a la música que amo, es una forma de conexión con mi pasión por la música y una manera de mantener viva una tradición que ha sido parte de mi vida desde hace muchos años.
Desde que se popularizo este formato, me fascinaba ir a las tiendas de música y revisar los estantes repletos de CD's, buscando nuevos lanzamientos y álbumes de mis bandas favoritas. Cada nuevo disco que compraba era más que una simple adquisición, era una puerta a un mundo de sonidos y emociones que me transportaba a lugares inexplorados. Escuchar un álbum de principio a fin, leer las letras de las canciones y examinar detenidamente el arte de la portada se convirtió en un ritual sagrado para mí, una forma de sumergirme por completo en la obra de un artista y apreciarla en su totalidad.
Coleccionar CD's me permite tener un objeto tangible que representa cada etapa de mi vida. Cada disco en mi colección me recuerda un concierto inolvidable, un momento trascendental o una época particularmente significativa en mi vida. Este cd en un principio lo compre en formato pirata en un lugar de la ciudad de Caracas llamado Mercado de La Hoyada, en donde prácticamente se consigue de todo. El disco se encontraba muy mal grabado, y la caratula del mismo era una burda fotocopia, tuve que conformarme con eso, hasta hace poco que un compañero de trabajo me dio como regalo un viejo cd del cual ya tenia otro original, siendo este el legendario Made in Japan.
El álbum Made in Japan de la banda británica Deep Purple es considerado uno de los mejores álbumes en vivo de todos los tiempos. Grabado durante la gira japonesa de la banda en 1972, este disco captura la energía y la potencia de Deep Purple en su mejor momento.

Soy fanático a rabiar de esta obra maestra, entre tantas otras, de Pink Floyd. Incluso el film es uno de los tesoros mas preciados que tengo en m colección de DVD´s. Tuve suerte de ver la pelicula alusiva a esta obra en un cine de arte y ensayo a mediados de los años 90, quede alucinado con lo que hizo el Alan Parker y la animación de Gerald Scarfe.
Hace 8 años, un gran amigo decidió irse del país hacia la lejana Austria (su lugar de nacimiento). Fui a su casa a ayudarle a recoger algunas cosas y a clasificar otras que iba a vender, entre ellas su preciado cd de Pink Floyd: The Wall. Yo veia el album cada rato y juro que casi se lo compraba, hasta el momento que el se dio cuenta y simplemente me lo regalo. Eso si es un buen amigo!.

Thriller.
Aunque yo soy rockero, debo reconocer que tambien me gusta el buen pop, y recuerdo ese gran revuelo en 1982 y 1983 con el album thriller y Michael Jackson. El video dirigido por John Landis era una minipelicula y era imposible no verlo en televisión ya fuese en su versión larga o corta.
Detrás de esta obra ademas de Michael Jackson se encontraba la excelente produccion de Quincy Jones, gran parte de los músicos del grupo Toto, Paul Mc Cartney, Greg Phillinganes, Eddie Vahn Halen y hasta el mítico Vincent Price.
No tenia ningún disco de Michael Jackson, solo recopilaciones y en 2007 salio una edición aniversario conmemorando los 25 años de Thriller, en un cd con las canciones originales, varias versiones con artistas invitados y un espectacular DVD con los videos de las canciones Billie Jean, Beat It, y por supuesto Thriller. También se incluye una presentación espectacular de Billie Jean para celebrar los 25 años Motown records. Compre esta version y no me arrepiento, su sonido esta muy bien remezclado, aunque debo decir que hay versiones de algunos artista que no me gustaron, pero las canciones originales son muy buenas.
