La noticia de su inesperada muerte nos tomó por sorpresa y fue inevitable que cada persona que haya nacido en este caribe y haya crecido escuchando salsa, recordara sus grandes éxitos: Gitana, Idilio, El gran varón, O qué será?, Sin poderte hablar, entre muchos otros que seguirán sonando en la eternidad. Hoy me gustaría compartir tres canciones de este grande de la música y con ellas que conozcan parte del gran legado musical que nos dejó. Prepárense para bailar, pero también para escuchar.

Idilio

La primera pieza es Idilio, una salsa lanzada en 1993. Recuerdo que la primera vez que la escuché estaba en la fiesta de una amiga que estaba cumpliendo años. Ella estaba emocionada porque le habían regalado el nuevo disco de Willie Colón titulado Hecho en "Puerto Rico". En esa época la salsa romántica era la música preferida de la juventud y aunque aquella noche bailamos todo el disco, fue Idilio la canción que se repitió una y otra vez.

El gran Varón

La segunda pieza es otra de mis preferidas y todo un éxito en la carrera de Willie Colón: "Simón, el gran varón". Esta canción fue lanzada en 1989 y recuerdo que en aquella época se hablaba del SIDA como una enfermedad mortal y era tabú hablar de la homosexualidad. Esta canción, que cuenta una historia, (salsa historia, la manera preferida de Willie de hacer salsa) habla justamente de un hombre que se convierte en mujer y luego termina enfermo de VIH.
