Charlotte Corday (1899), Óleo sobre lienzo de Arturo Michelena.

PukuGreetings to all my pukufriends and the Hive Throwback Thursday Community. I present you this post made at the PukuEstudio and titled: Throwback Friday PukuPost - Visiting the National Art Gallery with my students from Unearte - 2024 - by @nahupuku, I hope you like it. Blessings.

Im a Professor in the most important Art University of my country Venezuela, Unearte. On this occasion I bring you a post about the day we visited the National Art Gallery of Venezuela in Caracas, in the framework of the exhibition of the Venezuelan painter Arturo Michelena.

Some of them like: @jaguart00, @leidyg-art, @miguelvaldez18, @lunitallena, @limu-art, @viktoriaarts and @nathan-art, are art creators to Hive, others have a Hive acoount and they use NFTShowroom for mint theirs art pieces.

In the guided visit that I and Professor Aaron Torrealba gave for the Disciplinary Creative Project (within the framework of the subject: Plastic Language 1), we analyzed Michelena's work: Charlotte Corday (1899), Oil on canvas. And we shared knowledge with the students present there.

In this plastic language class we gave the students several codes about how to analyze a work of art according to a technical card, its composition, previous research of the author, techniques used, materials, and other attributes that could have the works of art to be analyzed.

We had a very pleasant time reviewing the works of Arturo Michelena that are part of the GAN collection, as well as some reinterpretations of new artists who paid tribute and homage to the painter Michelena in this art exhibition.

At the end of the class, the students toured several exhibitions in the gallery and were assigned the task of analyzing two works of art, one from the exhibition they visited and the other from one of their own works of art created during the semester.

This was the art exhibition:

Francisco Arturo Michelena Castillo; 16 June 1863 – 29 July 1898) was a Venezuelan painter known for his historical and genre scenes and portraits.

Miranda in La Carraca is a canvas painted by Arturo Michelena in 1896 on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the death of Francisco de Miranda, which occurred on July 14, 1816 in the prison of La Carraca, in Spain. The canvas is currently in the National Art Gallery in Caracas. Both the technique and the style fit into what has been called Venezuelan Academicism. The composition is landscape. Warm colors predominate (very typical of Venezuelan academicism). It presents Miranda with clothes of the beginning of the XIX century. He shows a serene face but denotes frustration and disappointment. His gaze is directed at the viewer. The model who posed for the painting was the Venezuelan writer Eduardo Blanco.

It is one of the most emblematic works in the history of Venezuelan art of the 19th century and an undisputed icon of the Patriotic imaginary. In this work the semblance of the Caracas hero is exalted in the sordid space of his captivity, where he was held until his death. Michelena decides to portray him lying on a cot and with his gaze fixed, as if he were there to contemplate the patriots.

The National Art Gallery (Galería de Arte Nacional; GAN) also known as Gallery of National Art is located in the Plaza Morelos area of Caracas, Venezuela. The museum opened in May 1976. In 2009 it moved to a new building designed by Carlos Gómez de Llerena, Venezuela's largest museum building. There are more than 4,000 pieces in its eleven rooms (arranged in a circular layout), with international and Venezuelan art. It has paintings of more than 40 Venezuelan artists. The works include pre-Hispanic pieces, colonial-era paintings, sculptures, and Venezuelan works of modern art.

The museum's most notable piece is Michelena’s 1896 painting of Francisco de Miranda in a Spanish jail, Miranda en La Carraca. Other famous artists whose work is exhibited in the museum are Arturo Michelena, Armando Reverón, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Pájaro and Jesús Soto.
