At Music Zone, we understand that you don't always have the best equipment to record your musical performances. If you can afford it, an artist can invest in better equipment. However, often it's not the equipment but rather knowledge of the basic principles of videography that matters. The success of a recording will depend on how well you prepare before recording.
Whether you record with your phone or your video camera, it's important to consider several factors. You must ensure that the camera lens is free of fingerprints and dust. It seems like simple advice, but this can partially or completely ruin the sharpness of the image. Lighting is also important. You can take advantage of natural light, and where that is not possible, you can use a ring light, softbox, or other light sources that provide even coverage. To keep your image steady, use a tripod, stabiliser, or rest your device on a stable surface.

En Music Zone entendemos que no siempre se cuenta con los mejores instrumentos para grabar nuestras presentaciones musicales. Si está a su alcance un artista puede hacer una inversión y obtener un mejor equipo. Ahora, muchas veces no es el equipo sino el conocimiento de los principios básicos de la videografía. El éxito de una grabación dependerá de la preparación que tengas antes de grabar.
Ya sea que grabes con tu teléfono o con tu cámara videográfica es importante que consideres varios aspectos. Debes asegurarte de que el lente de la cámara este libre de huellas y polvo. Parece un consejo sencillo, pero eso puede arruinar la nitidez de la imagen en forma parcial o completa. Por otra parte, la iluminación es importante. Puedes aprovechar la luz natural y donde no sea posible puedes usar un aro de luz, softbox u otras fuentes de luz que te cubran de manera uniforme. Para que tu imagen se vea estable usa un trípode, un estabilizador o apoya tu dispositivo en una superficie estable.

If you are recording for 3Speak or YouTube, we recommend doing so horizontally. The vertical format applies to Instagram Stories or TikTok. When recording, try to choose the highest resolution (4K is ideal). Other adjustments you can make are to set the frame rate (FPS), shutter speed, ISO, aperture, white balance, and colour profile on your camera or phone.
The idea is to get the most out of your equipment. We won't go into those details in this edition, but we'll definitely talk more about them in the future. Some people record with the front camera, but it is much better to record with the rear camera, which has a higher resolution. Try to avoid digital zoom, as zooming in too much degrades the quality and makes it look pixelated. Phone cameras tend to adjust exposure and focus automatically while you are recording, so it is best to lock them. Good preparation reduces the time and money costs of post-production.

Si vas a grabar para 3Speak o YouTube, te recomendamos hacerlo de forma horizontal. El formato vertical aplica para Instagram Stories o TikTok. Cuando grabes trata de escoger la resolución más alta (4K es lo ideal). Otros ajustes que puedes hacer es configurar en tu cámara o en tu teléfono la velocidad de fotogramas (FPS), la velocidad de obturación, el ISO, la apertura, el balance de blancos, y el perfil del color.
La idea es que le saques provecho a tu equipo de la mejor manera. No abordaremos en esta edición esos detalles, pero es seguro que hablemos mas de ellos en el futuro. Algunas personas graban con la cámara frontal, pero es mucho mejor grabar con la cámara trasera que tiene mayor resolución. Trata de evitar el zoom digital, si amplias mucho este degrada la calidad y hace que se vea pixelada. Las cámaras de los teléfonos suelen ajustar la exposición y el enfoque automáticamente mientras grabas, es mejor bloquearlos. Una buena preparación reduce los costos de tiempo y dinero de post producción.
