To create and transform is the virtue of the artist, in whatever area of art he or she is dedicated to. It is so intimate that, when we enter into full harmony with ourselves, the creative process becomes magical and wonderful, we can even lose track of time in the development of an idea. The sensitivity involved in the process becomes a faithful manifestation of the artist, his expression is very personal in terms of what he wants to convey with his art. These creative discourses go hand in hand with the cultural and intellectual aspects of the artist, and above all with his conception of the world around him.
Crear y transformar es la virtud del artista, en cualquier área del arte a la que se dedique. Es tan íntima que, cuando entramos en plena sintonía con nosotros mismos, el proceso creativo se vuelve mágico y maravilloso, incluso, podemos perder la noción del tiempo en el desarrollo de alguna idea. La sensibilidad implicada en el proceso se convierte en una manifestación fiel del artista, su expresión es muy personal en cuanto a lo que desea transmitir con su arte. Estos discursos creativos van de la mano con los aspectos culturales e intelectuales del artista, y sobre todo de su concepción del mundo que lo rodea.
It's all about being able to communicate through art, and music is no different from the other arts when it comes to conveying the message. We know that music allows us to express our emotions. Composing or performing a song implies experiencing different emotions, thus revealing the author's personality in its most intimate version. Sometimes, some artists, being quite daring, use resources beyond music to complement their artistic expression, turning their musical freedom into a unique work. The visual action in the musical manifestation has been a resource that countless artists have employed. The challenge here is that creativity allows you to make visual music, based on the narrative concepts of the discourse.
Todo se trata de poder comunicarnos a través del arte, y la música no es diferente a las demás artes al momento de transmitir el mensaje. Sabemos que la música permite expresar nuestras emociones. Componer o interpretar una canción implica experimentar diferentes emociones, revelando así la personalidad del autor en su versión más íntima. En ocasiones, algunos artistas, siendo bastante atrevidos, usan recursos más allá de la música para complementar su expresión artística, convirtiendo su libertad musical en una obra única. La acción visual en la manifestación musical ha sido un recurso que han empleado innumerables artistas. El desafío acá, es que la creatividad te permita hacer la música visual, fundamentándose en los conceptos narrativos del discurso.

To make visual music is to give action to the music, many disciplines come into play, such as photography, audiovisual, theater, scenography, costumes, lighting, literature, among others. The artistic action aims to involve the listener through the visual action, so it wants to break the barriers of interpretation and the viewer. It is basically what is known as Performance, a kind of scenic art that provides different elements for the understanding of the message that the artist brings us through his music. This action is part of the visual arts and, usually, it tries to give a particular aesthetic that emotionally stimulates the viewer.
Hacer la música visual es darle acción a la música, entran en juego muchas disciplinas, como fotografía, audiovisuales, teatro, escenografía, vestuario, iluminación, literatura, entre otras. La acción artística tiene como fin involucrar al oyente a través de la acción visual, por lo que, se quiere romper las barreras de la interpretación y el espectador. Es básicamente lo que se conoce como el Performance, una especie de arte escénica que proporciona distintos elementos para la comprensión del mensaje que nos trae el artista a través de su música. Esta acción es parte de las artes visuales y, por lo regular, se intenta dar con una estética particular que estimule emocionalmente al espectador.

The musical performance, as a visual art, fulfills the function of providing an aesthetic that is in accordance with the musical concept, it is a tool to extend the reality of the musical proposal; it becomes an excellent resource to link the viewer with self-expression. Although the area of performative action and music itself are completely different intellectual departments, they intertwine and manage a language that allows them to understand each other and create unique messages and stories. In musical expression, the performance explores what the music allows it to do, helping to understand the music from the artist's perspective.
El performance musical, como arte visual, cumple con la función de otorgar una estética que esté de acuerdo con el concepto musical, es una herramienta para extender la realidad de la propuesta musical; se convierte en un recurso excelente para vincular al espectador con la expresión propia. Aunque el área de la acción performática y la música en sí misma son departamentos intelectuales completamente distintos, se entrelazan y manejan un lenguaje que les permite entenderse y crear mensajes e historias únicas. En la expresión musical, el performance indaga en lo que la música le permite realizar, ayudando a comprender la música desde la perspectiva que plantea el artista.

Performance and music interact until they harmonize in an idea. The performance interprets the music to make it visible, taking the sound out of the invisible, converting it into visual interpretation through other languages of communication, colors, shapes, symbolisms, codes, among others. Of course, the artistic character will drastically influence the results of the performance. All this can lead us to imagine great things extremely elaborated, however, understanding the concept of what we want to transmit, it is possible to create simple things of great impact with few resources.
El performance y la música interactúan hasta armonizar en una idea. El performance interpreta la música para hacerla visible, sacando el sonido de lo invisible, la convierte en interpretación visual a través de otros lenguajes de comunicación, colores, formas, simbolismos, códigos, entre otros. Por supuesto, el carácter artístico influenciará de manera drástica en los resultados del performance. Todo esto nos puede llevar a imaginar en grandes cosas extremadamente elaboradas, sin embargo, entendiendo el concepto de lo que queremos trasmitir, se pueden conseguir crear cosas sencillas de gran impacto con pocos recursos.
Possibly, the beginnings of performance come with the development of opera since the renaissance era, which has developed and evolved over time. We know that the peculiarity of opera is that it is accompanied by a story that comes to life through musical expression. Today, the performance is an essential part of today's music, perhaps it is so normal to see it that we can think that a simple performative expression, we do not consider it as performance, but those very elaborate stage actions.

In recent years, performance has managed to develop amazing productions, many bands and musical artists have managed to offer great experiences to their fans through their music videos and/or concerts. They have given music an incredibly visual power, a singular expression that captivates our attention in the meanings of communication. Possibly, this is not so surprising today, given that there have been significant innovative ideas, some of which we may not yet be aware of. What is certain is that the visual wonder we can achieve after composition is an independent work in itself, complementing the music, and must be treated individually, and can be interpreted harmoniously with the music and without it.
En los últimos años, el performance ha logrado desarrollar producciones asombrosas, muchas bandas y artistas musicales han logrado ofrecer grandes experiencias a sus fans a través de sus videoclips y/o conciertos. Le han otorgado a la música un poder increíblemente visual, una expresión singular que cautiva nuestra atención en los significados de la comunicación. Posiblemente, esto no sorprenda tanto en la actualidad, dado que han habido significativas ideas innovadoras, algunas que quizás no conozcamos todavía. Lo cierto es que, la maravilla visual que podamos lograr luego de la composición, es una obra independiente en sí misma, que complementa a la música, y debe tratarse de manera individual, y puede ser interpretada de manera armónica con la música y sin ella.

One of the most used anglicisms in the world of show business is Performance, specifically in South America. Some words with which we could relate this term are: Result, Performance, Acting, Representation or Spectacle. When we talk about musical performance we refer to the musician's performance on stage, his interaction with the audience, and the use of resources and means on stage. The musical artist must be a theater actor, a painter who captures his ideas on the canvas, a poet who reaches the heart of his audience, an architect and stage designer, he can also use dance with the aim of entertaining and expressing his creativity. Creativity has no limits and on stage many things are possible. Theatricality, body language and costumes are elements that connect the audience with the artist.
Uno de los anglicismos más usado en el mundo del espectáculo es Performance, específicamente en los pueblos de América del Sur. Algunas palabras con las cuales podríamos relacionar este término son: Resultado, Rendimiento, Actuación, Representación o Espectáculo. Cuando hablamos de performance musical nos referimos al desempeño del músico dentro del escenario, su interacción con el público, y el uso de recursos y medios dentro del escenario. El artista musical debe ser un actor de teatro, un pintor que plasma sus ideas en el lienzo, un poeta que llega al corazón de su audiencia, un arquitecto y diseñador de escenarios, también puede usar el baile con el objetivo de entretener y expresar su creatividad. La creatividad no tiene límites y en el escenario muchas cosas son posibles. La teatralidad, la expresión corporal y el vestuario son elementos que conectan al público con el artista.
Some artists like Freddie Mercury stood out for their versatility, and their interactions with the audience. Perhaps some of you remember the performance of the Rock band Queen at the Live Aid that took place at Wembley Stadium in 1985. That atmosphere created with the audience was incredible. They sang along with the artist. And the interactions with the rhythm of the drums and the applause in the song "We Will Rock You" are really amazing. Other artists who have stood out in their performance by including dancing in their concerts: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, James Brown, among others.

Quizás algunos recuerden el performance de la banda de Rock Queen en el Live Aid que se llevó a cabo en el estadio de Wembley en 1985. Ese clima creado junto al público fue increíble. Ellos cantaban junto al artista. Y las interacciones con el ritmo de la batería y los aplausos en la canción “We Will Rock You” son realmente asombrosos. Otros artistas que han destacado en su performance por incluir el baile en sus conciertos: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, James Brown, entre otros.
The stage is an integral part of the artist's performance. It should be in an elevated position so that the audience can see the artist more easily. There is a team working behind the curtain, such as sound, image and lighting engineers. There are also fireworks and special effects specialists. Nowadays we can see large panels or screens where concerts are projected. These can be found in lateral positions, and even inside the stage. This element is also used to create a pleasant audiovisual atmosphere and to provide information to the audience. Some aspects can be revolutionarily inclusive, such as lights and sign language and subtitles. Recently, we learned about vibrating vests for the deaf at concerts of the British band Coldplay. We have also seen some concerts with bracelets and devices that change colors depending on the song being played and generate awe and excitement in the audience.
El escenario es parte integral del performance del artista. Este debe encontrarse en una posición elevada para que la audiencia pueda ver al artista con mayor facilidad. Hay un equipo que trabaja detrás del telón, como ingenieros de sonido, de imagen e iluminación. También hay especialistas en fuegos artificiales y en efectos especiales. En la actualidad podemos ver grandes paneles o pantallas donde se proyectan los conciertos. Estos se pueden encontrar en posiciones laterales, e incluso dentro del escenario. Este elemento también se usa para crear una atmosfera audiovisual agradable y para brindar información a los asistentes. Algunos aspectos pueden ser revolucionariamente inclusivos, como las luces y el lenguaje de señas y los subtítulos. Recientemente, conocimos de los chalecos con vibraciones para sordos en los conciertos de la banda británica Coldplay. También hemos visto en algunos conciertos con brazaletes y dispositivos que cambian de colores según la canción que se esté escuchando y que generan asombro y emoción en los espectadores.
A formula to sum it up would be
Performance = Theatricality + Music + Visual Arts.

Performance = Teatralidad + Música + Artes visuales.
All this multiplied by passion, commitment and love. Music is much more than knowing how to sing and play an instrument. Every week artists are presented on the Hive Music Festival stage, and we are impressed by all the efforts they make to improve their audiovisual content. They are truly amazing.
Todo esto multiplicado por la pasión, el compromiso y el amor. La música es mucho más que saber cantar y tocar un instrumento. Cada semana se presentan artistas en el escenario del Hive Music Festival, y nos impresiona todos los esfuerzos que hacen para mejorar su contenido audiovisual. Son realmente asombrosos.
