ThreeTuneTuesday // 3 Power Metal bands

I have mentioned before that power metal is one of my favorite genres. It is a musical genre that combines melodic elements, high speed, and powerful vocals, which come together to form a unique and very recognizable style. Of course, each band has its own style, personality, and image. It is normal that, despite belonging to the same musical genre, they can sound different in many ways. There are many power metal bands that I listen to, but today I will introduce you to three of the most representative or oldest ones that I listen to in this musical genre.

Something I like about these bands is the energy with which they generate their music, which invites you to always be on the move, always stay mentally active and, in that sense, keeps us attentive to what we hear and always with very good vibes and energy. As in almost every musical genre, there are different strands of power metal. For example, there are progressive power metal bands, power speed metal bands, and others that are closer to heavy metal. The bands I am sharing today have their own particularities, but I think that, in essence, you will find some similarities in their instrumentation and music in general.

The first band I'm going to introduce to you is HammerFall, a Swedish band that has been around for many years and is still going strong. In this music video, you can see that they use green screens for their videos, which is something they always do and is one of their defining audiovisual characteristics. But what I also want to highlight is the vocalist, a very good musician who stands out and is easy to recognize when we hear him sing. He exudes a lot of energy on stage, has very good stage presence, and, in general, does a perfect job. Something I like about this band is the unique and particular style they continue to maintain despite the fact that several years have passed. It's normal to see bands change progressively, but they have maintained their style since they formed, and just as they have remained faithful to that style, I have remained faithful to listening to this great band.

Then we have Stratovarius, a band from Finland that was the first power metal band I ever heard. From that moment on, I decided that I would listen to this style of music, and from there, I began to search for other similar bands. I would say that they are the perfect power metal band, as their style really defines what this musical genre is all about. They also have a very powerful, distinctive voice and are very good musicians who create impressive songs with great speed and skill. Although it is also true that it is common in some power metal bands to hear slower songs, perhaps closer to the ballad genre.

Then we have Rhapsody from Italy, a band that is closer to power speed metal, but which is essentially power metal. They changed their name from Rhapsody to Rhapsody of Fire, and currently have two different lineups with different musicians, but they share the music of the past in their live performances. This is a band that impressed me with their stage presence, always sticking to this medieval and fantasy theme. Their lyrics always tell a fantastic story that transports us mentally to other unknown lands where epic battles are fought. Of the three bands I am presenting today, this is the one that plays the fastest, which has given them a very distinctive style of music.

So, if you watched the three videos I just shared, you got to know three amazing bands that continue to fill stages around the world today and that, for me personally, make my day every time I listen to the dozen albums they have recorded so far.
