Hive Music Festival Week 105 - Round 3 // El martillo (Bass Cover) By @musicandreview
It is an honor for me to participate once again in the Hive Music Festival. My previous experience was very pleasant since I received a warm welcome which made me feel very good and eager to return. So in my second participation I bring a very well known song in the Venezuelan rock, “El martillo” by the band Caramelos de Cianuro has a rhythm and a very particular energy that makes that even in parties not related to rock this song is present to encourage it and make the attendees jump and enjoy.
To make this bass cover, I downloaded the song from the band's official Youtube channel and then edited it with the Moises application which allowed me to remove the original bass line. Then, through the audio editing tool Cubase 5, I recorded my own bass line to edit its sound to my liking. Lately when I do this I tend to use a very robust or rustic, rock-like effect, but this time I used a slightly softer and simpler one. I wanted to do this little experiment to know your opinion about it, since the person who does the sound mix is not exactly the one who chooses the best effect, that's usually a very subjective matter.
As far as the song is concerned, it is part of the album Harakiri City that was released in 1996, it is a short song, but fast and full of energy, in fact, I would say that “El martillo” has one of the most disruptive sounds of the band since after that album the style was changing progressively. In later years we did not hear more songs of that style in the band, but they did manage to amaze us with very good songs with unique and original style, which makes Caramelos de Cianuro one of the most representative bands of Venezuelan rock.
Es para mí un honor participar una vez más en el Hive Music Festival. Mi experiencia anterior fue muy placentera ya que recibí una cálida bienvenida la cual me hizo sentir bastante bien y con ánimos de regresar. Es así que en mi segunda participación traigo una canción muy conocida en el rock venezolano, "El martillo" de la banda Caramelos de Cianuro tiene un ritmo y una energía bastante particular que hace que incluso en fiestas no relacionadas con el rock ésta canción esté presente para animarla y hacer brincar y gozar a los asistentes.
Para realizar este cover de bajo, descargué la canción del canal oficial de Youtube de la banda y luego la edité con la aplicación Moises la cual me permitió eliminar la línea de bajo original. Luego, a través de la herramienta de edición de audio Cubase 5, grabé mi propia línea de bajo para editar su sonido a mi gusto. Últimamente cuando hago esto suelo usar efecto robustos o rústicos, muy propios del rock, pero esta vez usé uno un poco más suave y simple. Quise hacer éste pequeño experimento para saber su opinión al respecto ya que quien realiza la mezcla de sonido no es precisamente quien elige el mejor efecto, eso suele ser una cuestión muy subjetiva.
En lo que a la canción respecta, ésta forma parte del álbum Harakiri City que fue lanzado en el año 1996, es una canción corta, pero rápida y llena de energía, de hecho, diría que “El martillo” tiene uno de los sonidos más disruptivos de la banda ya que luego de ese álbum el estilo fue cambiando progresivamente. En años posteriores no escuchamos más canciones de ese estilo en la banda, pero sí que lograron asombrarnos con muy buenas canciones con estilo único y original, lo cual hace que Caramelos de Cianuro sea una de las bandas más representativas de rock venezolano.
