3 female metal singers you should listen to at least once in your life
I have already mentioned on several occasions that the world of rock and metal is full of all kinds of styles influenced by different cultures, regions and the artist's own and original tastes. This post will be focused on the influence that women have in rock bands, well, actually I will talk about only three of them, but believe me there is a very wide universe of women who with their voices are referents at the front of the bands.
Another thing that characterizes this post, is that I have a very vivid history with the three bands you will see below, I had the opportunity to see them live a long time ago and I still keep the pleasant impression they left me for their quality and professionalism, they are definitely high level bands with a lot of experience in the international scene.
I'm going to start with a band that marked my taste for rock music, but more specifically for Symphonic Metal. Nightwish is a Finnish band that has been on the scene for about 30 years, from the beginning they were idealized with having a female vocalist, but the key here is that it was not a woman with a conventional voice. Tarja Turunen is a lyric soprano who joined the band at a very young age and soon after being on stage she made a name for herself in the metal world. I was not able to see this band directly, but I was able to see their vocalist performing solo, she came to Caracas in 2009 and I did not hesitate to take the bus there. The wonderful thing about that concert, beyond seeing her live giving her best, is that she sang iconic Nightwish songs, among them “Nemo”, which you will see in the following video.
Next up is a Dutch Symphonic Metal band called EPICA, this one has a heavier style and even has elements of Death Metal that make this a very complete band with a wider musical spectrum. The vocalist of this band is called Simone Simons and she has been in the band since the beginning, no doubt she has been fundamental in the success of the band because of her charisma, beauty and talent. I had the opportunity to see them live on two occasions, in Valencia in 2008 and in Caracas in 2009, they were nights that I carry marked as wonderful musical experiences and I hope to repeat sometime. La canción del video se llama Sensorium y es mi favorita de la banda.
I'm going to finish with a band quite different from the previous ones, Arch Enemy is a Swedish Symphonic Death Metal band that also always had a female vocalist in their line-up, currently Alissa White-Gluz is the one who gives the shows and she does it very well. She uses mostly guttural vocals which is quite impressive for its aggressiveness, many would not believe that such a beautiful woman would come out with such a voice. My history with this band goes back to 2009, they came to play in the city of Maracay and of course I went, however, the vocalist at that time was Angela Gossow, a German girl who was also very good with guttural vocals.
Most rock and metal bands are made up of men, that's how it has always been and probably will remain so in the future, but I particularly listen to many bands in which there are women as vocalists, I think they generate a very beautiful and interesting contrast that gives the music a very different texture that I love. I thank life for giving me the opportunity to meet these bands and therefore these very talented women. But tell me, what did you think of these female vocalists?
They are truly big role models for every female (and not) metal singers out there. I'm not a fan of symphonic or Arch Enemy but I recognise their immense influence out there
Yes, these bands have a solid fan base around the world and are undoubtedly references with their female vocalists.
You forget Cristina scabbia from Lacuna coil. 😍😍
I didn't forget her, I know perfectly well who she is, it's just that there were only 3 in the top. Cristina is a wonderful singer.
Nice post!!! Let's rock
Glad you liked it!
I love Simone's sweet voice but my favorite is Tarja's, she has all the qualities I like in a rock singer and also as an opera singer.
I agree with you, I think Tarja is much more complete.
