The side of music that has been neglected
So much has changed in today's world in such a way that people so much believe in medicine. Nowadays it's very difficult to see any troubled person who is willing to subject themselves to music’s ability to heal. I've heard of the power of meditation, I've also heard of the good effects of relaxation but little do most people know about the power of music.
I got to know about the power of music from what happened to me and this was my personal experience. You know they say experience is the best teacher.
This experience I'm about to share happened during my high school days. In those days there were little free times for me, everyday was literally occupied with school activities except for the weekends. Every weekend I had to clean up my room and do the laundry. On Sundays I'll go for the church service which literally takes more than half of the day then to resume school on Monday.
One of the things that made me sick about my school that year was that the rate at which students maltreat fellow students was so high and the tiring part is that my teachers back in those days weren't helping matters because they are so strict but don't seem to have to enough power to exercise over the bullies.
A lot of students left my school as a result of how difficult things were turning out, especially as a result of the increasing number of bullies who maltreated everyone below their level.
One thing I never did was try to change school but there were times when the thought of it came to my mind yet I ignored it. I have always believed in the ability of us humans to adapt to different environments and conditions and yes I did adapt. It got to a time when my body began to resist the pain that comes from Cains and leather belts as a result of its constant use by the seniors in punishing us. Later I got the courage to smuggle my phone inside the school premises though this action made me to be extremely careful so that I will not be caught using my phone.
Soon after I got good at hiding it and I got bolder in using it. Every night, especially when it's quiet, I go online on the internet and start downloading songs, especially the ones I feel I need, which will put me in the best mood possible.
Back in those days the internet wasn't so organised and beautiful or do I say sophisticated as it is today. Surfing through the internet wasn't that easy, also considering the fact it's something new to me at that time and there weren't any stronger networks like we have in today's world. Yes but listening to music each night and every other time I got the chance really helped me a lot.
Listening to music helped me calm my nerves and stay collected. It helped me develop a strong mindset and to understand that there is an end to every situation. Yes I developed a strong mindset and I was able to complete my education in the school even as one living in the hostel for years but I'm grateful I did, I really lost a lot of good friends who fled the school. So It's a pleasure for me to use this beautiful opportunity to let you know that listening to songs that impact you positively is far better than seeking counsel from counselors or therapists because some music can take you to realms you never knew existed where peace and knowledge thrives.
Thank you.
You are right that this is indeed the neglected side of music ... but I too have known its power when no medicine could work ... it is a blessing to know!
Yes dear, imagine a world without music.
That would be a nightmare, though!
Hahaha🤣
