Final Message on this Account
For context: I sent this as a final message to my mailing list as I removed myself from all social media including youtube. So I'm including it here as an article. I will no longer be using this name to market events or music - so this is a goodbye. I thought I'd include this here for Hive folk who have kept up with me.
Heya folks,
How are you?
It's been a while. This is a new email address, and you might find it in your junk folder - if so, congrats on the digital scavenger hunt.
I wanted to reach out with an honest update. I’ve deleted all my Monty Cash social media accounts. I needed to step away from the legacy media sphere, from attention as currency, and from a path that no longer felt true.
After returning last year from overseas for traditional music training I've been going through some existential crises of sorts. I gained enough traction and attention from my crowdfunding to fund and got the support for a grant for an overseas trip and this attracted both enthusiastic support and also criticism (including an anonymous curse - LOL).
It was a bazaar situation for me and it provided a keen realisation about what happens when you gather attention in one place - what that does to people, their behavior and how they perceive you and relate to you, and how it affects your place in group dynamics.
After some keen soul searching and getting my bearings right, I decided it's not where I wish to go and nor do I see centralisation as an answer to what is here in this world. I see decentralisation as a clear path to the closest thing we can hope to call a solution. I need to align with that.
In conjunction with this, my music trajectory completely shifted and I had to remove myself from the traditional music circuit - as it's also not where I wish to go. I don't really like it. The style of music I represented in my events was more orientialism than anything and my westernised spiritual entitlement was laid bare for all to see in the academic, nationalist/secular environment of the school in Crete.
I got to see first hand how hollow my spiritual ethos behind this music was.. and I saw this also isn't me. My entitled application to this music was naive with my guidance coming from my subconscious as a kind of gut worship religion. I've really had to come back to earth on this one.
I've taken a decided u-turn against modern western new-age spiritual anything. This whole situation has really opened me up to an honest perspective and forced me to reassess and realign with more solid values. I really can't handle any kind of political or spiritual bypassing at this present stage in my mental evolution.
So at this moment, I'm living in Margaret River, doing odd jobs - and actually inventing instruments, which is fun. But not attacking it as though it is a mission given to me by God.
I've been forced to really stand back from myself and my life and rethink - reasess, and replan.
