The most recent plant homicide

IMG_20230925_095045.jpg

I wonder what certain characters from stories can feel when they take away a life.
Assassins. For example, Dexter Morgan, from the series. I watched all the seasons. I read a book too, the only one I have got in book form. But I don't remember whether he used to feel nausea and distress, or nothing at all. He was a professional.

I am just a plant killer, with experience. I took my morning coffee, went to my balcony and saw the results of my latest cut. Disappointing.

To understand what I am writing about I have to bring you some background. So, after I came back from my summer trip I had to do some plant rescuing activities. Some started to rot and others were attacked by mealybugs and some plague too that I didn't notice on time. From three pots I got nine as I made cuttings, thinking there were plants I could save.

After a week or so, I realized I didn't do a good job with some of them. One of the succulents got worse and I had to cut off all the rotten parts and what the bugs under the soil damaged. It was a disaster. This is what was left after I played the role of hairdresser plantdresser saviour. I talked to the other mom of this plant (we have shared custody of some of these succulents) and got the advice to leave it for a few days on air. The wound should heal a bit, to dry, before I put it again into the soil. It was at the beginning of August.

I have done the rescue in that way. It even started to grow small roots, I saw it when I checked it two weeks ago. However, the plant has not been able to handle these radical interventions, but to be honest the other plants are not doing perfectly either. One can think that taking care of plants goes without losses.

It doesn't.

This is how the same plant looks today.

No comment for this sight!

Even the radio station I was listening to today in the car accompanied the scene. I recognized the style and the composer but was not sure about the piece. Then I asked Google Assistance and the answer I got... was this:

Maybe I should consider giving away those succulents that still live or planting them in nature, so they could have more chances to flourish.

Speaking about blooming... Yesterday I went to the shop where I usually buy my sweet onions and passed by the smiling tree. Do you remember that one? From this post.

So, the smiling tree bloomed. It is so pretty, look:

IMG_20230925_094900.jpg

Well, it is not a great photo, and the flowers can't be appreciated from this angle.
Here comes a closer look at what the flowers look like.

IMG_20230925_094759.jpg

IMG_20230925_094954.jpg

Many of them were falling down from the tree so it seemed as if they were decorating the green grass around the tree.

IMG_20230926_200147.jpg

It was still morning when I was there. It is a rare sight here in Spain to see water drops on the petals.

IMG_20230925_094936.jpg

Although I went today to the supermarket again and passed by the tree, I better didn't touch any flowers. Just in case.

P.S. I know this blooming tree is not a succulent, so I am sorry if I break a community rule or similar. 🙏

I read this and I feel completely identified with you, for me it has been quite frustrating to see how my of my plants have died due to ants, which have done terrible damage to them.

Today I was talking to my mother and I was telling her that I must renew the plants and try to make them last. I have not been able to throw away one of them which is withered in a small pot, I still remember it with its beautiful flowers.

I hope your garden can prosper and I hope you can cheer up because at least you have the consolation of thinking that we did our best even though it wasn't enough 🌷

Ojalá tenga un jardín, but it is just on the balcony where I have my plants. During the years a whole jungle of succulents grew, but lately, there are losses. The small ones are dying away, one by one. 😑

I hope you can renew your plants and that they will flourish 🌼 :))

Oh dear. Somehow echeveria don't do too well in my climate either so I don't judge you. I mainly stick to plants native to my country, and I've become better at not killing them and I also got better at not killing cacti

There is a lot of truth in what you say - plants that are native to our countries. They must do better! This one that I killed I got last winter from the neighbouring country and it was doing great. Until summer came... 🤐
Well, the majority of these small ones are suffering. On the other side Jade Tree, the big Aloe Vera and Ruby Blush are doing very well right now. 😊

Succulents look strong but sometimes something bad happens to them. I had two aloes.... in pots but the water from the air conditioning upstairs dried one of them out, can you believe it? I didn't even realise, one night the air was on full blast and I got so much water that it killed my silver, the other one I rescued.

The flowers on that tree are beautiful, I love them.... I love them, even if they are not succulents.

Thanks @mipiano ❤️

Oh no, the water from the air conditioning? That probably flooded the pot 😐
Too much water - bad. Too little water - bad again.

I almost thought that it was easy to have succulents. Maybe it is, but then I am not doing very well 😅

Hey, señor Puma. How are you? 😃

Thanks for the encouragement! Now we just have to wait for that time when my plants will get their strength back if they survive 😅

Those flowers are beatiful. I would like to see that Tree in life at the moment it is full of flowers.
Respect to the suculentas plants: they are an interesting specie for me. There are Many types, a great variety. It is a Shame what happened but at least You can learn from this Bad experience.

Yes, there are many types of succulents, and in theory, it is not that difficult to take care of them well. It is now a series of bad luck maybe.

But I'm more curious to those who get killed rather than those who take away life. For sure sadness was there, even anger. But, will they plot a revenge too? As a ghost maybe? Hahahaha.

Anyways, I'm also a plant killer, can't even grow them that's why I leave the planting to my mom. But I can water them, that's the best I can do, lol. By the way, those flowers looks pretty, it has pretty color too.

Ghost plants? Haha, no, I don't think so. The watering part is not easy either, as too much water can kill the succulents.
The flowers from the tree look nice, indeed 🌸
