Shadows from a song

Inspiration...

My inspiration was in its dying phase - maybe I just say that I enjoyed the Silence Of Thoughts... or should I say that I was under some Black Shadows' effect?

Negra Sombra, a piece I was playing on Monday and today at a rehearsal added to the thing. We need to prepare it for January for a concert, among other pieces and it is not a very cheerful one. The composition was written by Juan Montes and the world premiere happened in 1892, in Havana, Cuba.

I play the piano arrangement of the orchestral version, it is something like this but adjusted for the piano and choir.

IMG_20231206_143530.jpg

The song is based on one poem written by Rosalía de Castro. She was a poet from Galicia and included a poem without a title in her collection of poems "Follas novas", published in 1880.

Here is the link if you want to read it in her native language, which is spoken in that part of Spain, Galicia. There is also a Spanish translation under the original version.

In a few words - she talks about the pain and that black shadow that never leaves her, even when she thinks it is gone, the shadow comes back to mock her. It is in the sun which shines, and in the stars, or in the wind. She feels that pain even in the murmur of the river, it is everywhere. When people cry or sing, the black shadow is present and she confesses that it will never leave her.

The music that I play affects me. It is like living the same as the writer or composer wanted to transmit. So you see, working around this song made me see the black, though I also see the white - when I sit in front of the piano. The combination of black and white actually reminds me of one community and her admin (thank you for the inspiration, you know first-hand how this post was born hahaha).

My boys prepared the lunch today and I took a sweet beverage after it. Well, two. Suddenly my photo of the keyboard changed its appearance.

First - surprise! But let me see it better. It can't be distorted in this way, something is wrong here. I was laughing already. My boys were mocking me. Just two shots and you are seeing things hahaha...

Very funny!

The pizza was salty, I was thirsty. Though I could also pick water, right? Anyway, this became my fun time and I forgot the silent thoughts phase. One word became two, and Yamaha was seen several times.

IMG_20231206_143530-5.jpg

Then I applied a bunch of stuff, no more shots, I promise. We already have a whirlwind of thoughts and eyes that stick. It could be that I have already entered the dream perhaps. A short nap will come in handy now.

IMG_20231206_143530-6.jpg

But before I enter the world of my dreams, I have to make sure I will not see the piano keys in these versions the day we have our performance with the choir. I will have to practice a bit and get back that little but very-needed thing called self-confidence. Oh, I should not open GIMP until the concert passes, as I will remember this little fun I had right now.

And just skip any 🥃 before getting out to the stage and leave the kaleidoscope vision at home, not to see the piano keys in this form.

I suspect the sweet drink was spiritual… or it was spirituous? 🤣
You made me remember when I played the guitar and I felt the vibration in my stomach. Yes, you feel the emotions of the composer, it’s magical. 🥰♥️🤗 !LUV

Do we have to go into the details hahaha? Let's say it was tasty and made this post happen 😂

I have always thought that the piano is the most melodic instrument and the one with the greatest power to transmit feelings. I never tried to learn because it seemed more complex than my guitar, but now I regret of it.😅

The piano is a complete instrument, in terms you can play melodic pieces or more rhythmical pieces, the harmony is also present. I don't play the guitar, and I also think it can be difficult - the guitar. Every instrument has its own difficulty, right?

I also think an instrument chooses us haha 😁

In my opinion, the piano is the master among instruments. Similar to the harmonica, when it is in the hands of a virtuoso, the sound it can make can replace the entire orchestra...

If I said that, it would sound as I am biased hahah, but yes, I do agree with you about the piano 🎹 😉

The piano keys portray different emotions when played, so does humans have different emotions when they hear music. Cheers to the power of music and the joy it brings to us.

You are so right, humans have different emotions when hear music. The same happens when we perform it, we can't just play notes. We have to live that idea from the music and transmit it to the listeners. 🎶

Yeah and that's what makes us a different entity from all others

Songs that happen to be very good make us relax a lot when listening to them especially when the lyrics are so beautiful.

I love kaleidoscopic visions hahahahahaha don't drink before playing the piano, it's dangerous!

How cool were the images and I loved the songs, I was listening to them while I was reading.

Your dream world must be great!😃

I was just walking in the museum where you took us haha, and tried on the dress. I will take it! And as it would not allow me to move around a lot, I will have to play again with the kaleidoscope to entertain myself 😂

We have a saying when we drink homemade brandy: "One is just right, two is too much, three is too little...".
Looks like two drinks were too many for you too?

That saying is funny, but probably that is the truth haha 😂

Good thing you have no inspiration, if you did, I don't know what would become of us, poor mortals.

Maybe I should use coconut milk for my coffee tomorrow morning and see what happens with the inspiration. 😂

What a trip! 😱🤣 It reminds me a movie I see years ago for one of favorite actors Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro, Fear and Loathing in las Vegas 😉

Sorry, I missed this comment of yours. I think I haven't watched that movie, but if Johnny Depp is the main actor then it must be pure craziness 😁 😎

Gracias señor Pumartístico!

Hehe. It is quite funny. A creative writing.

No, you don’t drink when playing on the stage, haha, if you don’t want to play from another dimension.

You might get some fantastic inspiration from that kaleidoscope vision, well, who knows?

They say that before the performance it is good to have chocolate, that is for the concentration. And after, oh well, party time can come :D

As a pianist, I enjoyed the photos in particular ... as someone rolling around the bookends of Schubert's Winterreise, I especially enjoyed this insight into how the music we as musicians learn affects us as well...
