Perfect piano for our feet

avatar

My good memory still serves me... I can almost hear the voice of one of my piano teachers:

Who taught you to play the piano like that? You could play with your feet and it would sound better.

Oops, do all the piano teachers talk in this way to their students?

No, at least I can't do it. I feel it is an insult! Being sarcastic (and it doesn't even have to be expressed in a highly acidulous way) is something I can't easily accept as a way of communication and moreover as a way of teaching. Still, I heard that sentence and the variations of it more than once, but luckily it was not addressed to me. We, as students used it sometimes but just as a joke. I could use it for myself but for sure I would feel bad if a teacher or colleague would say it for my piano playing - meaning it seriously.

However, I literally played the piano with my feet. The piano keys were perfectly made for my steps, crossing the road and playing the piano - with my feet.

IMG_20211103_231247.jpg

This was also one of those silent pianos that didn't give real music. But we could imagine it in our minds and hear some compositions.

In case I cross the road slowly, I could hear Gymnopédie No.1 by Eric Satie. It is just one example, many others could come but I guess if I cross too slowly that street a car would hit me and then the music in my hearing would definitely stop.

IMG_20211101_175451.jpg

Let's see what music can come if I cross the street quickly. Do you have some ideas? If yes, let me know in the comment section, but until then I will show to what music I would run on those keys. Well, maybe it would sound like playing with my feet hahaha, so Daniel Barenboim can play perfectly - with his hands.

These piano keys and musical notes are painted in the streets of one little town, Catarroja close to Valencia (Spain). They are actually pedestrian crossings but painted into piano keyboards. Also, staves and notes are there, in recognition of the La Artesana Musical Society. Seems that they have the headquarter in that street.

IMG_20211101_175257.jpg

IMG_20211101_175352.jpg

My staves and notes lead me to a piano again. Horray, I can play with my feet and nobody would mock me for that :D

IMG_20211101_175407.jpg

So, which piano pieces would you play while crossing the streets of Catarroja? Or you would play a different instrument, just reading these notes?

This is so cool to find piano 🎹 keys on the street… I would play going over them with my feet but not sure what song.
I also do like it when I find that kiddie game with the chalk you need to jump over while you threw a stone (not sure about the name) to go over it.
Hahaha it’s fun some times to act like children again.
But these piano keys are pretty cool.
Hi @mipiano 👋🏻😊 hope you are well. I am finally getting more time to be around again.
Have a lovely weekend ☀️🌺

Yes, imagine that, finding these pedestrian crossings painted as piano keys! Super cool, right? Would be difficult to make it as a violin or other instrument, but the keys are matching well the crossing.

The game drawn with chalk, to jump over where you throw the stone - yes, we played it too. Those were the games of our childhood ;D So, that's a long time ago haha

I am glad to see you more around, I hope we can soon know where the final destination will be hahaha. So it's not Northern Ireland...

Have a lovely weekend you too!

It’s truly cool… 🎹 works indeed perfectly as a crossing.

Yep, that one… I just don’t remember how we called it, in any language !LOL
It sure is a longgggg time ago hahaha 🤣

Yep… will write more soon where I ended up. 😎

Thanks a lot. Enjoy yours 👋🏻🌺 !LUV

I found a piano on the street yesterday as well. The strange thing is that I had always seen him there, from afar, but I had never come so close. Of course this time I went and I guess it will come to Hive ;) one of these days. Coincidences of life hahaha. Na, eso no existe.
I like Satie, it's sad but how beautiful. And Barenboim well... it is perfect to balance after listening to how you slowly cross the street. There doesn't seem to be many cars passing by hahahaha, cheater. That street reminds me of one in Old Havana.

No way!!! You also found a piano? Looking forward to seeing it soon in Hive then! Though this musical walk happened already a year ago (or a bit more) but found these photos today.

Satie, yeah, a bit sad. Cars - seems none passed when we were there but those streets are open for traffic, though all one-way streets as they are a bit narrow.

I love murals both on walls and streets and this one in particular is beautiful, especially for playing with feet, that would be great.

I would particularly like something by Beethoven, I love it.

That picture with your eyes and the piano in the background is great!

Have a great weekend @mipiano ❤️

The majority of the murals and graffiti we see are drawn on the walls so this was even more interesting to find. And the piano keys, it was a perfect match for my feet!

Beethoven - nice choice!

Have a great weekend you too!

Send her video how you actually play piano with feet.

Evo ti, na! 🤣

I agree about sarcasm and rudeness if you already accepted teaching call, lots of nerves and patience required, doubt that kind of behavior will bring any good results except trauma. 🤦🏻

No video. Though I can go back and make one indeed haha, it was a while since I walked there.

Teachers don't have it easy always, still, there are better ways how to teach, I agree!

I have a friend who is very interested in this kind of thing and even if he is good he can playing it very well whenever we have the heart to listen to a song. He listens to us and looks a lot better.

That's a really nice piece of street art. I wonder what would happen if all crosswalks were painted like pianos. It would be interesting to give people some subliminal messages and make them go into music. I know all of them wouldn't get to keep playing, but they would appreciate music and art better.

I could also listen to the notes. But I can't play piano with my feet even if I tried. I know someone who can play bass with their feet and its very funky!

If all the crossroads would be painted like this... there would be many happy pianists in this world hahaha. Those who are already playing the piano, and also all those children who see it would choose the piano, so what would happen with the other instruments? 😱 😆

Wow, playing bass with feet, cool.

Look at this:

How cool, right?

I totally agree!

Ha, ha, ha, ha. Good thing that playing piano with your feet has a name. You need to dance. And that looks very tough to do.

The same as the fingers have to do - dance on the keys :P

I know I'm bad at that. That's why I'm using my energy to learn how to play the Cajon. It's a better use of my time. :))

Hahaha. ok, I STOP and don't cross. But who will play then? 😂

Is there always a "leading to somewhere" pattern in my posts?

I bet you are happy this street didn't lead to any cats lol

Improvisar algo? Me parece muy bien y creativo! Además, han puesto muy pocas notas musicales jajaj, con esto no tocamos Beethoven allí 😂

Gracias por leer @malos10 😇

Very nice this thing of finding piano forte keys or staves painted on the road...
Thinking about it, since I used to play guitar, I would imagine myself doing a pentatonic while crossing the road, and surely, playing an AC/DC song, they would not run me over: no they would not make it in time!!!
Ahahahaha

Playing a pentatonic scale, yes, that would be nice :)) and AC/DC hahah, it would indeed make you safe if a car comes :D 🎶🎶🎶

What lovely street art this is!

Uhm, am not sure what I will hear when I play this. I shall test it, in real life. Since I can think of not being able to properly play with the street piano, it is slow and chill, perhaps with some wobblyness in it to be in sync with the music note lines.

In the meantime was wondering if it is possible for a human to go as fast as mister Daniel Barenboim on his real-life piano. Tapdancers go fast, true. It's like seeing you in one of those early 20s movies that are played faster than it was recorded, ie in overdrive 2x perhaps 3x to 4x faster? {LOL}

Question: how did you find this one? You heard about it and went out to check in real life? Or just by chance?

It was just by chance that we found these keyboard crossings, around a year ago or so. We stayed with our friends from Valencia and it was a spontaneous afternoon walk when we got the opportunity to play around these keys :))

I think that you would mark some steady rhythm, and you would maybe not use many different keys. A few, but then well creating some interesting patterns. But you should try it indeed, I can send you the location :D

Friend @mipiano, there are many teachers who do that kind of thing and for me it is unacceptable.

By the way this beauty was very fitting that it came to you honoring your name and your art hahahahaha, it is an amazing and totally beautiful sreetart.

I would step on it and walk through it like a girl, I have no musical knowledge or names, but I do love music played on piano, I usually listen to it. I remember as a child I dreamed of learning to play the piano and when I listened to Richard Claidermant. I would close my eyes and imagine being the one playing, nowadays when I listen to that music sometimes I feel the same.

Thank you for sharing your find. Greetings sweetheart ✨

It is never late to start learning the piano, the real one, or maybe to step on these painted keys and imagine those tunes that Richard would play :))

Very cool street now with this musical score... I don't know which piece, but I think your choice of Eric Satie is excellent. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
