Musical Instruments - do you have a collection?

This could be a difficult one... But let's face it as a little personal challenge. I have been thinking for a while about the topic that can serve in February as inspiration or suggestion, or call it an official initiative in this little community, Hive Collectors.

The last two months were amazing, December brought us Christmas postcards and many Christmas decorations and January converted itself into a month of mugs. A huge THANK YOU goes to everyone who made their contributions. I will not tag users, but those who eventually will read this post will know that I am more than grateful for each collection that arrived!

Those who didn't see these topics on time or just didn't make their posts on time can still publish their mug collections, at any time, it is fine.

However, the new official topic for February will deal with music! In particular with:

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

At first glance, you can say it is easy for me, as I am a musician, but I don't have a huge collection of musical instruments right now. The truth is that I have had several pianos since my childhood. My first piano, a Vienesse grand piano could not be tuned anymore, it was that old so my family gathered money (those were some economically difficult times) and bought me a used, but newer upright piano. Thanks to that I could continue to practice but when I moved to another city the need for an additional piano came. That is how we bought my second upright piano. Both these pianos served me for many years, I finished my studies and later I gave them away to my nieces. Each niece has one piano now.

IMG_20230323_184106.jpg

This is what an upright acoustic piano looks like. As I am many many kilometres away from those pianos I gave to my nieces, I am bringing a photo of one that I played last year and which is the most similar to the one my family bought me when I was around ten years old.

Right now I have a Yamaha digital piano at home as I live in a not-so-big apartment. This one also has a hard time finding its place, I am moving it around the room depending on where there is space for it. If you have followed me for some time, you can recognize this instrument, I usually record my piano videos with it.

I bought it from a neighbour who rarely played it. He had an idea to learn to play the piano, purchased it in The Netherlands, and brought it to Spain but nothing, he gave up and the piano was sad, it was not played. When he was moving from the building this piano was just a burden to him. He was happy to sell it to me, and I even paid him more than he asked for it as I knew what I was buying (he underestimated its value).

IMG_20240201_105313.jpg

I have to tell you that this is a peculiar musical instrument. It is still shaking when I play it (as I didn't tighten some screws properly) and sometimes it organizes parties by itself. You see, a violin, a wooden flute and maracas gathered this morning.

Let's meet his friends.

The violin!

IMG_20240201_104927.jpg

This violin is not a Stradivarius but still, it was four times more expensive than my digital Yamaha piano. And that is not all, you have to have a good fiddle bow, a set of strings, a shoulder rest and other accessories that its owner - my son, gladly spends money on.

The wooden flute!

IMG_20240201_105200.jpg

It found its place in our home as one of my husband's uncles made it and gave it to my son as a birthday gift. He is a woodworker. Not many things my son plays on this flute, but the other day he was improvising a bit, and also, just for fun, he played the tune from the movie Titanic. We laughed a lot at that performance.

The guitar!

IMG_20240201_104824.jpg

This was a cheap guitar that my son bought from someone who didn't learn a lot. It was mostly sleeping on its case. The same as it happens now with it, as no one plays it. Unfortunately. You know when you are a teenager and you think you can learn to play the guitar in a few days and play chords on the beach during evenings, around the fire and make yourself a star. Well, it happens just in tales. Not in real life. 😂

Maracas!

IMG_20240201_105117.jpg

I got these maracas from my aunt and uncle, who visited Cuba many, many times. They used to travel there every year until the health problems which come with age made them stop travelling at all. My uncle is really old and there are also dementia issues... but when he talks about his nicest memories, he talks about Cuba. Last summer when I visited them I had to make him company in drinking Cubalibre (Rum and Coke).

You see, I don't have many musical instruments, but still they make a collection. I also have a stage piano, which looks like a keyboard that I can take with me if I have a gig in a venue without a piano. I store it in the storage room in its case, so here is a photo of me playing it a few months ago. Piano, in action!

IMG_20240201_084151.jpg

This can be a hard topic for Hive users who don't have musical instruments at home... but everything is possible, if you are creative and find your way ;). There are also many musicians in Hive, so if you read this post and find it interesting and you can think about someone who would like to participate, please, let her/him know.

Thank you in advance and if you decide to participate - have fun!!! 🎶

Wow! You have a lot of musical instruments dear. No wonder you are a piano master and a sensei of Music.
In my home, we don't really have musical instruments but I love music and singing is really my passion. We have karaoke over they years with big surround speakers. For now I am keeping my portable amplifier with speaker so everywhere I go or we go that needs music I just bring it because it's just like a luggage with a handle so easy to bring.

If you ask me, I would love to pursue my piano lessons though🤭🤭 a bit embarrassed because I'm a bit you know old but hey, as they say learning should never stop as long as we are alive. For now, we have a ukelele here now in the house, it's my friend's.
My side of the family all loves music but really don't have musical instruments at home. My son used to start learning the guitar but since he is so occupied with studies he has no time but he says he wants to learn. On hubby's side though, my brother in-law plays the guitar and my nieces plays the ukelele and the piano.

Hello there, @aideleijoie

Good to hear that you like singing and you also do karaoke! That's cool.
and it seems that the family on your husband's side has an affinity for music. 🎶

As our children grow, they have more and more stuff to study, so it is normal they have less time for other additional activities. That is how it goes.

Oh you got a nice collection there, when I was younger I bought a guitar also , but I never learn how to play it well 😅 I had not time with the painting and photography , beside my voice is creepy when I sing 😂😂😂

I think you have a good lucky nieces 😂

Have a nice day señorita Mipiano! 🤗

So, you are a creepy-voiced photographer when singing? Hahaha, I don't believe you :p

Yes, my nieces are lucky, both are studying music, the older one already graduated and is doing a master's in music, plus maths. They inherited something from me :D

Thank you señor Puma, and I hope you are having a good day too 😉

Wow you have quite a few in my opinion! I only have a few string instruments... Two acoustic guitars, a bass guitar, two electric guitars (those are my favourite) and a ukulele... not nearly as interesting as the variety of instruments you have! 😁

That is not just only, what you say!! It would be indeed great to see your collection of string instruments, @hellsveiah 😍

Hahaha, once I made a post with the violin. I mean not playing but it was me, "pretending" that I play the violin, It was a part of one funny challenge. :D

Speaking about flutes, that's my favourite kind. In the right place, I could play a real symphony with it (and something to pour inside, obviously ;))

So you also can say you are a musician :D

A real symphony. It would happen in my head, after one or two glasses of beer 😂

Such a nice collection! It's great that you get to have so many things to do the activity you enjoy the most. You're very lucky :)

That piano is gorgeous

Hello dear friend @mipiano good morning
Since the beginning of the community that I want to make a post here, I have some things that I have collected for a while, DVD movies, vinyl records, rocks, beer cans, mugs that have been given to me on Father's Day.

At home there are not many musical elements, we only have an old guitar that no one plays anymore after my son traveled to Ushuaia, perhaps he now has some instruments at home and can collaborate with the photographs. I will be sure what I can take to accompany this initiative

I love the theme you have chosen. Have a wonderful day

Having a collection of instruments has been a goal since my adolescence and I still want to fulfill it. I want exactly all the instruments you share with us 😄 adding a drum set and many electric guitars 🤣

Your entire collection is beautiful, dear @mipiano 😊 Hace a great day, a hug 🤗

I’ve got no musical instrument and I don’t have an idea on how to play anyone too. One of my goals this year is to learn how to play the guitar. I’ve been too busy but I think I can achieve that

What can I tell you.... that the piano doesn't take offence but I fell in love with the violin! I just stared at it.... what a beauty! Thanks for that picture, I love it! The other instruments are super nice, but the violin....😍

The violin is a nice instrument, a bit loud when someone practices lol
It is a "singing" instrument 🎻

{I hope the piano will not hear and take offence haha}

Hello friend, how beautiful all that collection that you share with us and it is fascinating the way you managed to get each one of them and in that way be able to have a very good time, in addition the instruments are the best experience and company that can exist, since it allows you to spend very good moments. I liked the macaras and it is a fairly small instrument, but at the same time it allows for great movement and rhythm to the music, so that collection will be very well remembered.

As I am a musician and my son too, we have these at home, though there are those pianos that I don't have with me anymore. A musical instrument is always a good friend of a musician ;)

What an impressive collection you've got! This challenge is going to connect lots of musicians one another on this chain, how awesome is that!

Also, I've been digging around thinking what I could post in your community lately as I have lots of collections since I was a kid! Congrats for making this one. I actually wanted to create the same community last year but focused more on Festival Mania which seemed closer to becoming more popular. Now looking at it... I don't think so anymore lol. Hopefully it will bloom again in the summer!

Festival Mania is a cool community :) We just need more festivals now, so yes, spring and summer will bring more of them 😎

I am looking forward to seeing your collections with the accompanying stories about the items you collect. And this topic, the musical instruments, although it is not easy and I know that not many musicians saw this hahah, I hope creativity will make some posts appear, bringing a collection around this topic each one in its own way 😋

A hug, @gabrielatravels and have a wonderful weekend 😇

I have...

  • Two guitars - one steel string, one flamenco nylon
  • A tiny midi keyboard for production purposes
  • A tin whistle
  • A shakuhachi (japanese wooden flute)
  • A Turkish drum
  • An ocarina
  • A cheap ($150) viola
  • A ukulele
  • A harmonica
  • Some mysterious tibetan one-note flute things (a b-day gift lol)
  • A kalimba
  • My voice (It counts!)

I think it's super enriching to surround yourself in different perspectives of music like this, even if theyre jsut cheap tack like harmonicas and ocarinas in the shape of a bird. They just help you think about music and the world differently. Good for creativity ^__^

(A very almost had a Lyre too, but tragically I had to give it away as a gift for an old student of mine. Sigh.)

Oh, wow, your collection of musical instruments is impressive. Would be cool to see them in a post 😍, especially that mysterious Tibetan flute and kalimba. The voice, of course also counts haha

If my niece would be on Hive... she could bring her collection (with the piano she got from me hahaha) and also a theremin she bought herself. Oh, I forgot to mention in my post a melodica I got from my father 😓

Speaking about melodica now, they just came to my mind

😂

Would be cool to see them in a post

Waooo @mipiano, even put a very hot challenge to this corner. If I had read your lyrics in my childhood, it would be easy for me because I had some, including a drum set. Nevertheless, I'll let my imagination run wild ha. ha.
Very nice to see your collection of instruments, that piano that reflects the movement of your fingers and the mastery of your art. Greetings

What a joy it gave me to see that you have a little piece of Cuba in your house and on your beautiful piano. And that your uncles visited Cuba.
You just have to come and for sure you will learn how to play them. Sorry I didn't see this post in time. Very nice. ♥️🥰

The maracas are more like a memory, a gift I will keep probably forever even if I don't use it as a real musical instrument ;)

Saludos, @mipiano.

Greetings, @mipiano. This is a great initiative. @jesuslnrs invited me to participate in it and really photographing and telling the story of each of the musical instruments that are currently at home connected me with many memories, not all of them pleasant but all of them important. And the stories of the instruments that were and are no longer... wow, they are also interesting and although I didn't write them down, I relived them inside me.
Blessings and may the music continue to resonate within us.
