Learning methods
Omg! Time for some teenage photos once again. ๐

If you want to mortify yourself, look for your high school photos. Ok, maybe you will have a good time laughing, actually. But look at me, I am so funny. I look terrible in photos. Not that I look better in real life, but there are people who are photogenic and come out very well in photos. I am not one of them, and you can see it for yourself, no flower by my ear would help me to improve my appearance. Thank goodness the photo is blurry, so nobody can see me well.

Congratulations!! ๐
You just won the special prize of seeing another photo, which is not as blurry as the first one. It is from the same high school year.
We were in third grade then. I had my shortest ever haircut in those two years (second and third year of high school), and I think I looked too childish compared to my classmates. Did I have black under my eyes? ๐ As for studying, I was not bad; however, I am here to talk about one subject we had, and it was not my favourite one in the beginning. It was the subject of the Italian language.
In addition to English as the first foreign language, we also had Italian as the second foreign language. That was my first encounter with it, and it was quite difficult for me in the first year. The native tongue of my best friend at the time, who you can see in both pictures right next to me, was Romanian. She was very good from the very first lesson in this subject, though I could not understand why it was so difficult for me.
My grade at the end of the first semester was 3 (out of a maximum of 5). It was the worst grade for me, so I tried a little harder in the next semester. I think the problem was that we started with grammar and some lessons from the required book that I didn't like, and were meaningless to me. How do you learn a foreign language that you have never had any contact with? Certainly not this way...
It was only the English teacher who came up with the trick to make me love Italian. I know, it makes no sense that the English teacher helped with another subject, but it so happened that she decided that we should listen to songs, in English and in Italian, and that way, by singing, we would understand them better. The first song I remember sitting in the classroom and singing along to was Volare.
Volare oh, oh
Cantare oh, oh
Nel blu dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassรน
Who can't sing this part of the song? All of us, I think. And this was not the only song we learned, as we were introduced to Eros Ramazzotti's music too. Well, his songs sounded so cool but the difficulty to sing along was higher. More or less, I could sing the song like this:
la la la la una bella canzone ๐
The other day we heard from the radio this song and yay, I still knew this part la la la la una bella canzone hahaha. Ok, I should get back to this language and refresh my memory a bit, as four years have made me learn something. Not too much to speak Italian, but to vaguely understand it.
A quite new song for me, but not a new song in the world of music, is the next one. I heard it from a radio program one Sunday morning while travelling to my piano gig. I had to find it later at home, and since then, I have listened to it quite a few times. What a nice and beautiful piano part... ๐
The whole radio show was dedicated to Italian songs that I enjoyed listening to while driving. I am bringing just this one here, in addition to the other ones I knew already in high school.
Strange thing, how just the way we are encouraged to learn can make a difference. Learning a foreign language just from the book wasn't tempting at all, but through music, I might have managed to learn something, and of course, improve my grades. ๐
Looking at photos of the past is funny one sees how much has changed. Sometimes for the better. In your case don't worry, a girl is always beautiful. My teenage pictures, ahh, I hide them. Hearing songs on the radio in another language makes me listen to the music because sometimes I don't understand half a word. Thanks for your post I laughed..
My ones also sleep in photo albums and in a bag hahaha, closed in a cabinet ๐ but sometimes they appear from that darkness
La ragazza vuole sentirsi dire ciรฒ che giร sa... che รจ bella dentro e fuori! Allora e adesso.
Vola, vola, vola, uccellino blu! ๐
So you had Italian as a subject in school as well? I see you can write it ๐
No translate help, right?
Grazie ๐
๐ Hahaha... I passed a training course, but I can't write or speak that fluently, so that's what the translator is for...
My grandmother was the daughter of Italians... what memories! I know a few words, but not many, my mother knows more, but I love Italian songs and I love Eros!!!! What a beautiful song!
The photos are great, I found you faster in the second one... who said that you are not photogenic!!! I'm writing to you while listening to the beautiful music you bring us and what a good idea from your English teacher!!!!
Volare... I love it!
La nonna italiana ๐
Eros, there are a few very cool songs, and later, already when we came to Spain, I heard their Spanish versions too. I didn't know they existed in Spanish.
Volare, oh, cantare ooooooooh ๐ถ
Mira otra cantante italiana
Buongiorno and grazie ๐ถ
Buona giornata!๐
I'm not 100% sure which is you in the first photo, but pretty certain in the second one
I have a white-blue striped shirt in the first photo, and a denim jacket on it :))
Yeah!!!!
Got both right!!
Divine youth treasure, you look amazing and beautiful. What memories @mipiano. I love Domenico and Eros and Italian is nice to listen to and it sticks.
It's hard to learn a new language, I know, but there's always something left. For me for not practicing I have been forgetting Russian and I am brushing up but also English. Nice your post. A hug.Bel fine settimana.๐ค๐ฅฐ
Italian is one of the most melodic languages, as they say. We just have to remember all the Italian operas and arias, where the language can be appreciated indeed. Grazie @mamani ๐
I remember when my wife and I met you in Madrid the first thing that struck us was your beauty. You may not be good for the cameras, in fact neither am I ๐ but you are very beautiful and you have such a special charisma that all of us here at Hive notice it and feel it, even though they are only screens. These pictures are great and I'm glad you shared them on #tbt Thursdays, I hope your guy also shares a similar memory in his time ๐๐ Hey, how cool that method to learn another language, I say this daily to Jhoxiris, especially for Italian which is his new goal...
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!
Please consider voting for our Liotes HIVE Witness. Thank you!
And not the hug? ๐
Well, thank you, although I don't feel that way hahaha, maybe my mirror is broken then? ๐ You and Jhoxiris are both beautiful, and I am sure she and you both sing Italian well already. Thank you, we have to go now, our son arrived, but we have to leave again, he is playing at one thing this night at 1 am. ๐ฌ
OMG...Ramazzotti!!!! Mi cantante preferido, ademรกs en la secundaria lo amabaaaa jajajajaja, era mi amor platรณnico. Sus canciones acompaรฑan nuestro viajes siempre. A mi esposo tambiรฉn le gusta mucho, aunque lo escuchamos preferiblemente en espaรฑol...igual de hermoso.
You looked super cute with that haircut and you look great in both pictures. Gracias por presentarnos a Mipiano adolescente ๐ค.
Otra canciรณn bonita
Hahaha, nice to meet you too ๐
Bella canciรณn!!! Quรฉ lindos recuerdos. Un abrazo y lindo finde ๐ค.
Gracias, igualmente y Feliz Pascua ๐ค
Gracias ๐ค
Greetings ๐ค tremendous TBT. Learning a language is sometimes challenging, especially how you say, not having direct contact. Italian is a beautiful language, I like it, although I don't know if I would dare to learn it. And that method I think is very good, finally, I think that much of the words I know in English are by songs ๐ a hug, nice pictures.
Yeah, when you don't speak or hear it on a daily basis, it is so strange and difficult, though music for sure can help ;))
Thank you ๐
You are still beautiful.
Do you know what it says on the sign above your heads, at the first picture?
My ancient Greek are a bit rusty but I was surprised to see them on the wall of a foreign school :)
I hoped you would see the Greek letters and help me with the translation, as I don't know ๐
The photo was taken in the language classroom of Latin and Greek. We shared these classrooms with the classes from another high school (actually, we used some of their classrooms as our school didn't have enough space although we learned English and Italian. It was the school right next to ours, so getting from one lesson to another was a matter of a minute or less.)
I am not sure but it should mean something like "bringing owls in Athens". And since Athens was full of owls, it is an expression used for someone that is trying to present as new, something already known. I may be wrong though, I hated ancient Greek :)
Then maybe we should call @elbuhito to solve the mystery about that writing ๐
It clearly states โOwls will dominate the worldโ ๐ฆ
๐
Haha, nice translation :)
Reading you I just realized why I stopped liking to learn English, since the books and the way of teaching did not make me love it, but when I listened to songs in English I felt that this language was for me haha the way of teaching can change the desire to learn and by the way, I always wanted to learn Italian, my grandmother was Italian and I wanted to go to live in Italy, well, dreams that may or may not materialize haha
I am delighted that your teacher has been able to guide you on how to learn Italian ๐
Unfortunately, when we start to learn a new language and it starts in a way that is not interesting and easy, we are confused, we don't understand anything, haha, and we lose interest. Or we stop liking it all in all. That should not be the way of learning...
Ok, ok, Buhito, I will not disagree ๐ but we have to make that club hahaha
I canโt help but laugh too whenever I look at my old photos ๐
Wait, are you sure youโre in the first pic? ๐ Iโm still trying to spot you! Hahaha
Your haircut in the second one is adorable!
And yeahhh, thatโs definitely not the ideal way to learn a foreign language ๐ฅน Good thing your English teacher came through! I wish we had learned a new language through music, too. Instead, we were stuck analyzing ads and watching movies without subtitles ๐ We were learning Spanish back then.
Yes, I am in the first photo too, camouflaging, like a chameleon ๐
Watching movies (but with subtitles in the foreign language you learn) is a good way, I think. And reading books, even newspapers ๐ but songs, the fastest way ;D
Good evening @mipiano, I think I recognize you in the second photo. Your pictures don't seem to me to have anything wrong with them, on the contrary.
The third subject is wonderful and unknown to me.
A very big greeting.
No problems with the photos, but with the models hahaha
We were just too funny, I mean, looking at ourselves in a young version always brings some laughter ๐
This phenomenon of laughter at a photo of a sample of adolescence is a universal phenomenon. I still think these models are fine.
Happy weekend, @mipiano.
That's great that you still have your high school photos! It's really thoughtful of you. As for me, I can look at my old photos on Facebook! Hahaha. The music we listened to in high school brings back such nostalgiaโlike the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls, and all those boy bands.
I don't have Facebook anymore. My account was disabled - I must have done some terrible crimes so they did that ๐
Anyway, I do preserve the photos from our past, though sometimes it brings laughter haha
we used to sing Rafaela Carra songs when were kids
