Intermezzo

Do you also feel that the word "intermezzo" refers to a brief pause?

It reminds me of a radio show I listened to when I was a kid... it broadcasted classical music. That music was like a little dose of culture we could absorb among all the other grey events happening around us. A break from everyday things and an immersion in peace. Maybe the show was called that, hence the connection I see. I don't know anymore, it was a long time ago.

If I move forward a little in time I can reach another intermezzo, this time with a more personal connection. It wasn't a radio program I used to listen to - this time it was a piece I played with a colleague.

These photos were taken by a photographer friend, in one of our rehearsals in the school where I worked as a piano teacher. Every year we had a concert to bring classical music to the audience and show examples to the parents. Another reason was to inspire the little students. And not less important - to stay in shape as performers.

Sometimes the teachers focus too much just on passing on the knowledge to students but then they forget to maintain their own practicing and performing levels. These concerts were perfect not to let it happen.

I played with a double bass player colleague for one of these concerts. He chose the piece which I loved actually. Intermezzo op 9 by Reinhold Glière.

We can listen together to this piece while I write these memories and you read them. Shall we?

Probably we also had the piece recorded at the concert but I can't find it now. It happened in 2011.

The photos, yes, they are here, I found them this morning while I was trying to do some cleaning from unnecessary photos and documents on my laptop. A friend of mine, the photographer I mentioned came to the school one morning while we were working on the piece. He was very subtle while moving around with his camera and didn't interrupt with his presence the working process on the musical piece.

There were things to work there as it is not a shallow musical piece. If you are listening to the video you can hear a dialogue between the double bass and the piano. In these cases it is important to have the musical ideas aligned with the person you play with, it is not enough to learn your part at home and put it together in one rehearsal. So we practised together many times, usually in the mornings before the lessons or in our breaks between them.

Intermezzo in breaks - that was a good match.

{However, I have to confess - sometimes I needed coffee or a snack during those breaks and the piano scores were not edible.}

These photos are a good reminder for me too, maybe to find these scores and a double bass player here where I live now and perform this piece. The black shirt (or dress - not sure what was it actually?) with flowers is better I don't search, I know I didn't bring it with me. And it is not certain I would ever wear it again lol. You also have my permission to laugh at it if you want. 😁

I love intermezzos throughout the day and throughout life. The shirt is beautiful, you can wear it again, the same or redesigned.

Sometimes Hive is that break I need between daily tasks.

We see you in the next intermezzo 🥂😉

I didn't bring it with me when I moved countries so I have no clue where it would be now.

Hive is indeed a very nice intermezzo between the chores we have every day ✨
Thank you for your words 🤗

To interpret a piece alone is very difficult, to do it accompanied is an art that cannot be practiced separately at all, you need to listen to each other, it is as if you were speaking through your instrument. How beautiful music is ❤️

It's magic what is happening when two or more, much more musicians can bring together the music. 🎶 Do little owls like to sing or play the violin together?

Buhito likes to sing (although he doesn't have a good voice haha) and play the violin with other little owls 🦉 🎻

I listen to the music as I read it and it transports me to a memory of mine.... my best friend loves classical music and she has a great collection of music cds, she used to lend me several of them. I met her at university and today we have been friends for more than 25 years. Classical music was something common between us.

Thank you @my piano ❤️

It's nice that you still conserve that friendship, 25 years is not little, and that music plays a strong role in it 😉🎶🎶🎶

It's the music that we agreed on and that was great, she plays the piano and the guitar. I've sent her posts from you!

Wow, what beautiful music, you really must find this sheet music again because if you could play it successfully more than 10 years ago you must sound at a higher level now because I know you are constantly evolving as an artist. There is a lot of elegance in these images, and that's just pictures of a rehearsal, there is definitely talent here to capture moments with a camera. Your post is beautiful, until this moment Intermezzo for me meant a pause and a coffee at the Teresa Carreño Theater where I enjoy my musical breaks. Happy Thursday my dear!...

If I could also serve you coffee now with this post, then it would be even better, a real tasty intermezzo 😁
Happy Thursday to you too 😉✨

The music and the experience in playing are part of your life and it's wonderful! Now I have a lot of my paintings over the bed. The story of my life become colors. Art is really magic!!

What a relaxing piece! The double bass (I had no idea that's the English name for it) is a great match to the piano.

I also heard about its English name just when had to use the word, a few years ago. And yes, I agree its a nice combo with the piano 🎹✨🎶

I listened to his Intermezzo very early in the morning, it was not yet dawn and I felt a peace, listening to his beautiful interpretation. The accompaniment was also beautiful. I like classical music especially when I read or when I go to bed. Here in Cuba there is a radio station of instrumental and classical music and my husband and I listen to it a lot. Thank you mipiano for sharing. Excellent day to you.🥰🎹🤗

😅 las flores... Ni se notan al lado de las de la falda floreada que mdrguez me quería hacer.

I hope you find the scores and the double bass player. 👏🏻 Nuts, a vacuum flask with tea... of some flower... 🤪😄 So you don't go hungry.

Nice memories.

What a beautiful piece of music! That dialogue between the piano and the cello is pure magic, I love both instruments. I like the editing those photos have, the color goes with the energy transmitted by the music. The Shiryu-dress is insignificant 😊. Hugs.

This indeed is a beautiful piece of music. 😇

I think that the colour of the photos is due to the bright yellow colour of the walls. A little part of that yellow can be seen here oh, and it is me and my niece 😁
