In vacation mode?

IMG_20230729_222409.jpg

Although my memory serves me well in most cases, I don't remember exactly who said that we musicians don't get a vacation. The same applied to the weekend. Days off at the weekend do not mean that they are days off for a musician. Concerts, events, gigs, celebrations, weddings, and birthdays where musicians sometimes play are often held on weekends.

Summer. Sometimes it's hard to bear these hot temperatures, but life goes on and the music doesn't stop. Practising and playing, performances do not know of a long break. I had my free time but yesterday I went back to my Sunday morning gig. And you know what, I enjoyed playing again. Even though the absence was only for a couple of weeks, I felt that I missed playing in public. While playing some songs, I got goosebumps. It's a repertoire that I can play easily, I've played it so many times that we might think I'm already bored, but to be honest, I enjoyed the work so much. I do need changes and a new repertoire however the old and normal one also served as a trigger of very nice feelings. Work can give pleasure?

IMG_20230730_100730.jpg

Yes, work. I get paid to play, of course. You might think that this is my only motivation to get up on a Sunday morning at 7, get ready and go to work. It's very easily possible, but the fact that I enjoy what I do is not insignificant. The reaction of the listeners also matters. One woman was quite pleased with the music she was listening to that she sent over several smiles and signs of enjoyment. She eventually came over and asked me if she could take a photo. From a few words, I learned that she is a soprano and has a pianist friend and the photo was intended to be sent to that friend. A colleague, who understands that music never stops... although she was just the listener this time and not the one who works.

And what is the situation with musicians who practice during the summer, have rehearsals and are ready to perform without being paid for it? Take for example this brass band that gave a concert on Saturday night in the promenade. The concert started at 10 in the evening, but it was still so warm. This time I was the listener, my friend was playing. I, who didn't do anything else but stood and listened to the concert, was sweating... We can only imagine what it must have been like for those who played and were illuminated by the spotlights. But I did not notice that they complained or were burdened with it. They were focused and liked playing.

The question is who has more pleasure, those who play (as a hobby or as a job) or those who listen? Are those vibes shaped in musical notes, harmonies, and rhythm have the same weight to the performer and to the listener? I know that I really enjoy being in vacation mode but music can't cease :)

Vacations? Content Creators have 0 of those! :D

Well, I'd argue the musicians get more pleasure from music since we understand a bit more of what is happening. But it's just a things of experience.

That sweaty situation with the concert makes me think you were at a concert in Cumaná. Ha, ha, ha, ha.

And also, you're famous. Send me an autograph before you start charging for them xD

Then musicians are like content creators?

Well, true hahaha 😆

It is so warm here too, that we are already melting... though I don't see on myself that I am becoming thinner, just my dresses are becoming small - don't know why!! 🤣

The autographs for friends would remain gratis 😉

Yeah, it's a shared fate.

🤣

I see. Well, it's time to find the reason behind that. I believe people get bloated under too much heat. Don't trust me on that, tho 🤣

Lol, i guess it's true that musicians don't go on vacation, because music come anytime. And for your question, it's actually those that do it as a hobby that has more pleasure because they will surely derive joy in it while they are at it.

Maybe we can combine vacation and work, if balanced then it is all good 😃🎶

Lol, I think we can actually do because playing alone is a work.. but it's never balanced because one will surely want to play especially when it's an hobby

It is a fact that when people do this kind of work, this kind of work becomes more during the holidays.

I think the musician enjoys it more than the listener. I enjoy designing or painting more than the person watching me.

I guess it's the same for musicians, even if it's 40 degrees.

When you love what you do .... it's play not work, you enjoy it a lot.

Hugs @mipiano ❤️

It is because we know how much work and passion is behind a composition, story, design, poem, painting, performance... The passion we give into it. Usually, it is the artists who can appreciate in the best way the work of each other and enjoy the same :))

You couldn't have said it better, every artist knows what his work is worth and others understand it. Hugs!

Exactly... ✍🏼 Siempre encuentro en tus palabras muchas enseñanzas.

The listener's enjoyment will be determined by the connection he or she has with the music. To that extent he or she will enjoy it even more than the musician or enjoy it in the same proportion.

With the musician it is the same, he will enjoy more or less depending on how connected he is with his performance or with his art, if he is the one who has created the music.

I think that musicians who don't enjoy their work will eventually look for a professional reorientation. Maybe they will go to quality control somewhere hahahaha ...

Then it is sure I will not look for that quality controller work :))

You summarized so nicely, it, of course, depends on the connection each one (the listener/or the musician) will have with the music.

Thank you for your opinion, Nanixxx 😇

I thought each time musicians travel to play, that's part of their vacation too.. Hehe.. I even feel like musicians' job is enjoyable, they would visit another place to play to make people happy.. That's their pleasure..

It seems that you have a hobby that pays you good money. rather than "work"

When I was in the working world, that is what it felt like to me I enjoyed what I mdid so much it was like a hobby for which I got well rewarded.

I feel so sorry for the minions who have to "work" doing something they hate.

As it is my profession and career I have some trouble accepting it as a "hobby" haha, but yes, I get the point. When we love what we do it is like a hobby for which we get rewarded.

I was eight when I decided that it will be piano or nothing. The post from the other day (secret customer - quality controller) was just a joke 😉

Duh!

My youngest granddaughter plays the piano, she is currently at grade 5 level, she started at aged 10. I can see the effort she puts in to it. Music and theatre is her passion and her path in life too.

Really? Is playing work?

I always say to my musician and DJ friends they are simply executing their hobby, even when gigging. Getting paid to execute their hobby, how wonderful is that? Mostly they don't really react to my statement. Perhaps they agree, perhaps they don't 😂

I would think the performer has more fun than the listener. Since we can assume the performer plays whatever the performer likes. The listener simply has to listen to whatever is played. And that can sometimes be awful 😂 When such happens, we (the listener) have two choices: 1) stay and deal with whatever sounds reach our ears, 2) be rude and leave. I suspect most of the peeps go for option one...terrible 😂😂😂

Glad you enjoyed you Sunday gig and got some attention from the public 🙇

Really? Is playing work?

It is 😋

But I do agree to some extent, about the hobby part. I mean, we don't really like it is called a hobby, as a hobby doesn't pay the bills we musicians also have, but a paid hobby already sounds perfect for me :D

Hahaha, the two options that the listener can do are so true! Maybe we can add 3) put earplugs to stop terrible music coming into the head and continue being on the event, if the other parameters are favourable :))

I was also glad to play again. Actually, I didn't know I missed it 😃

Earplugs. From my own experience, I know that the musicians need to play quite silently to not hear them. Even when closing the ears 100%, sounds are still transmitted to our brains through our bones. Since at first, I didn't believe it, I did a test myself. So, yea, option 3 is possible, but not always effective 😉

Missing playing: Glad you found out you missed playing. Or perhaps, maybe not so good to know. From now on you gonna try to have a piano near you ALL the time, even when in need of enjoying a vacation 😕

I can maybe have a mini-piano, something like a keyring, or decoration, so I have both: piano and vacation 😂

Ask who will have more pleasure whether the player or the listener...
Both because music is "nectar" for the hearing, and the one who plays, always plays with the soul.
These vibrations the instruments, any instrument, even a recorder, transmit them to the listener. Who receives them and is moved by them.
Basically, the one who plays has goose bumps and the listener has a heart full of joy!

Of course, both! There was one quote I read a few years ago, I will paraphrase - The musician is not who plays (touches) an instrument, but who touches the heart of the listener 🙂

Hey @mipiano First of all, your writing skill has a captivating touch, the way you arrange your thoughts in words makes reading it fun. I really wish I had this rare gift. Indeed, as you said, there are no holidays for Musicians. well, might I emphasize, Good musicians, hahaha? Especially those who get paid for performing. I guess this already gives you my answer to your question in your last paragraph. I believe that there is no greater joy than getting paid for doing what gives you joy.

Thanks for sharing this thoughtful insight, I enjoyed it!
