The neighbours are coming

They are coming to Hive indeed today. :))
The cat, Luna, with her beautiful blue eyes, is also a part of the story; however, when this little "accident" happened a few days ago, I immediately remembered one initiative we had here at the Q Inspired by music community. It was called "From the neighbour's point of view!".
The purpose of that prompt was to share our experiences with the music or noise in general coming from our neighbours, how we react, and whether we like it, what kind of music you hear from the other side of the wall, etc. You could write about it from your point of view - as a neighbour.
However, it was also an invitation for musicians! If you are the one who makes the music while practising your musical instrument or playing just for pleasure, how do your neighbours react to that? Do they complain, or are they happy with having a free concert and free rehearsals with many errors, repetitions and all?
In that post I wrote several questions that could serve as a guideline, as an inspiration, as an idea of what to highlight in your post... Maybe you were not at Hive at that time, and you haven't seen that initiative. In that case, feel free to check out the end of the post, ie the questions and if you find them interesting, or have a story to share about this topic, I will gladly read about your "musical troubles". 😋

These are two drawings from that post, about my neighbours and me. In that moment, it was more just a joke that they would be happy if the pianist moved out... In the end, this became true. For the relief of my neighbours!! 😂
Back to the cat 🐈 and my little story from two days ago. I went to the apartment of a musician friend to practice as we are preparing a concert together. She plays the mandolin, which is not a very loud musical instrument, so she has never had problems with her neighbours while practising. Luna, her cat, is also used to her music and usually sleeps while there is music. But when we were taking a cup of coffee, she was asking for attention and jumped onto my lap, then asked to be petted, then walked between my friend and me a few times.

She was full of energy - you see from the photos it was not easy to take a photo of her! All blurred. 😂

Then we started with the work: studying the pieces by parts, in slow tempo, then polishing several passages, adjusting the coordination between the two, learning not just our own parts but also the pieces as a whole, in duet. There is a lot of work to get used to the other musician if you want it to be perfect. For all that time, Luna was fine with our music! She calmed down and went to sleep. 😁

We need to record two videos in a few days... I calculate it would take us the whole afternoon to record the two pieces successfully (La Paloma variations by Tsygankov and one Tarantella). Just to have an idea if we made any progress in the previous almost two hours of studying together, we wanted to record an audio of Taranetella, to check the tempo, the balance between the piano and mandolin and see what we have to improve. I pressed the "record audio" button and we started...
Ding-dong - we heard the doorbell and stopped. Los vecinos vienen 😱 (the neighbours are coming) said my friend hahahaha. It was the next-door neighbour, an elderly lady (ok, not so old but not so young either) claiming silence for her siesta!
Oops...
...
My friend apologised and let the neighbour know we need to practice for another 15 minutes (at least 😅). And that is what we did, we played much, much softer in those next 15 minutes, to respect the neighbour, but still work a bit more on Tarantella. At least we made some compromise so everyone was "happy". (The neighbour lady will get a bar of chocolate as well 😉 )
What would you do if you were this neighbour?

Thank you @ewkaw and @qurator team, meow 🐈 😇
🎉🎉🥳 Congratulations 🥳🎊🎊
Your post has just been curated and upvoted by @Ecency , keep up the good work !
What an amazing Tarantella, @mipiano.
How clearly articulated!!
Your bright tempo should make (almost) every listener merry! 🎹
Thank you Alessandra 😍 , well, maybe it should be a bit slower.
Almost, hahaha, just the neighbour was not happy with it 😂
I read both posts at the same time... but I didn't get dizzy, ha ha ha.
I'm not a musician, nor do I have musician neighbors, just people who listen to loud music, ha ha ha. I wouldn't mind listening to a piano all day, but I have very sensitive ears and high-pitched sounds hurt me. When I was a child, I had an ear infection in my right ear, and that left it sensitive. I hear a lot and very loudly, the opposite of being deaf, ha ha ha.
I loved the part where they said that the neighbors whistled your melodies, how cool!
Back to the post... which post... I'm on both, ha ha ha.
Luna the kitten, what a beauty! You can win anyone over with chocolate, well done
You handle the shifts between the posts very well! 😂
The oposite from being deaf - omg, that sometimes must be difficult, when some neighbours listen to loud music. 😩 Sorry for my delayed response, I had many lessons this afternoon, and now I am getting ready for a gig at a private party 😎🎹. Luckily, in a huge house without neighbours, as the gig starts at 23:00h 😁
Un abrazo 🤗
Y yo recién llego!!! Disculpada! Que tengas un concierto espectacular!🤗
We have a neighbor across the street who has a stereo set up in his garage. On nice days he will leave the door open and play it quite loud so the bass rattles off our house. When he is fighting with is wife he turns it up even louder. That happens a lot!
That is not nice at all, to play music that loud, not to mention the fact of fighting with his wife 😟.
It's a hot mess sometimes!
I would call the police, even before nocking on the door 😆😆😆
Honestly, I would let it be. For a few times/days. When it would get on my nerves, I would say something to the neighbour. However, I expect you guys made the music dureing the day, not late evening, or early evening, like 19/20 in the evening. When during the day, all good. Unless the music is terrible or the playing is terrible. Tone ladders are terrible, for instance, or simply nmot playing as a total beginner.
The cat was all good, or the photo of Luna curled up, and all are from before you played and recorded?
Hahaha, then I would write this response (and the post too) from prison 😂
Yes, during the day, the only thing is that it already entered the time of "siesta" after lunch. No other time we could practise though.
Luna was sleeping while we played. I took those two curled up photos during one break. The real video-audio recording will happen on Sunday afternoon, in a hall with a grand piano 😉
Good evening @mipiano, if the sound coming from a neighbor's house is pleasant and not too loud, I'm quite tolerant... the thing is, I'm not very tolerant when it's siesta time, so I think I would have done the same... knocked on the musicians' door.
I'll read the other post tomorrow... by the way, the kitten is adorable.
I hope you have a lovely evening and a great weekend. 🤗
Good evening, or good morning @enraizar 😋
Acabo de llegar a casa 😆, the evening was bombastic hahaha, I played at a private party to a group of girls, se lo pasaron genial. Yo también, todo lo que es conectado a piano, a mí me encanta. Bueno, mientras la siesta, esto sí que es más incómodo para los vecinos, pero con la compañera mandolina no teníamos otra opción. Gracias Enraizar, good night 😴
Good morning @mipiano, after a fantastic Friday, I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards 🤗
I've always been around neighbors who play loud music, though not so often and I'll ignore them to avoid any altercation.
I enjoyed listening to Tarantella. Very soothing.

:( I was being harassed so hectically that I couldn't even play piano.
INSANITY here :( Perhaps they don't like music in ZA.
I will try again.
You play so well. If I were that neighbour I would ask you for lessons *nods
Just those who can appreciate music and the ability to play an instrument would do that, ask for lessons. As it doesn't matter what you do or how good you do something, (anything in life) if the other side is not "there" it wouldn't recognize its value 😉
I have started pain ting rocks :)
And thanks for this! I needed that <3

What a lovely story about Luna and music in your life. I love how you intertwine the story of the cat with the 'From the neighbour's point of view!' initiative; it's a reminder that our experiences can resonate with others, even in something as everyday as music.
The fact that you and your friend respect your neighbour while pursuing your musical passion is a beautiful example of empathy and consideration. Music, although it can sometimes be loud, also creates bridges and moments of connection, both with those around us and with ourselves. It is admirable that you are willing to adjust your practice to maintain harmony in the community, and the idea of sharing chocolate as a gesture of goodwill is simply charming.
Luna, with her energy and curiosity, adds a special touch to the atmosphere. It is fascinating how animals can witness our passions and, in their own way, participate in them. I hope your music evolves and that each practice becomes a moment of shared joy, both for you and those around you.
