Three Hot Tunes for a Hot Day

The middle of May is the time in the northern hemisphere when it is too hot to do anything, but no one turns on the air conditioning yet because it is still "Spring".

Air raid sirens are going off as I am writing this, but I'm not worried. This is only a drill. If this was an actual emergency we would all be screwed. The announcement says to go to the nearest underground shelter. I don't think that would help much in an air raid. Our school doesn't have a basement and even if it did we would all be in shambles.

I think when the missiles come I will be in my office watching the fireworks. We are dead meat either way.

Pump up the Volume - M/A/R/R/S

This is British house music in its birth. Written by Martyn Young and Steve Young in 1987 this was the peak of trap music, but not the end. It's the perfect song to listen to during an air raid siren. The sirens blend in the background of the song. The beat picks me up in an otherwise drab and melancholy atmosphere.

I know public safety is important, but seriously I had these drills when I was a kid. We hid under our desks and put our hands behind our head. I don't think that would really help in a nuclear missile attack.

Shaddap You Face - Joe Dolce

Like a rebellious Italian boy I say to the Air Raid siren, "Shaddap You Face". I have to make up this class tomorrow when I could be going home early. Oh, "Shaddap you face."

The announcer on the PA says, "Go to the nearest subway or deep underground bunker." I don't have a deep underground bunker, do you? "Oh Shaddap you face."

My uncle was a golden glove boxer and a patrol officer for the city. Nobody said nothin' to him him or they'd get their face boxed in. "Oh, Shaddap you face."

I've heard enough about banks and dollars and stocks and war.

"Oh, Shaddap you face."

U.G.L.Y. - Daphne & Celeste

A little treat from my middle school days. We thought we were hot stuff. We even had a Celeste on our cheer-leading team. Oh she was dissin' it. You ain't got no alibi.

This song is in contrast to the self propaganda of the 2000s. Ugly people may be offended by the song, but that's just the point. This was the "Yo' mama" era in history. This was not far from the, "Up your nose with a rubber hose."

Of course the rhyme: "Sicks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me..." is not true, but I think we overdid it on the self appreciation agenda. It's time to appreciate each one for who we are. We are all ugly and we are all beautiful. We are happy when we embrace both with a smile.

This is the truth. My son complained that he was the only foreigner in the neighborhood not going to foreign school. He complained that the local Korean school was too hard. I think it is too, but that makes him very special.

Other foreigners take an easier way and get better grades, but in the end he is the only U.S. who graduated from this public high school in Seoul. Take the good and the bad and the ugly and laugh and make the best out of it. The air raid is over and so is my selection for this Tuesday. It is too hot and the air conditioning is not going on.

These three tunes were picked for the three tune initiative by @ablaze. Check out the Three Tune Tuesday Showcase. Lot's of great tunes and interactions there.

Wow!!!!

I don't know how they do it, but somehow my co-teachers know what I am thinking.

This teacher went out and bought me a smoothie during the Air Raid Drill. Then the maintenance office came in and turned on the air conditioner.

Looks like it's going to be a cool afternoon after all.

That's the power of music.

Hahaha. Yeah, this made me laugh.

I loved these songs. I loved the "Big accordion solo!" And yes, I pumped up the volume for it.

Wonderful @wwwiebe,

I'm glad you enjoyed the music. That man was actually my great uncle (my mom's uncle). He was 100% Italian. Not all cops were Irish back then. Emphysema got him. The last contender.

What blasts from the past. Pump Up the Volume is such an awesome tune ... Just magnificent .. and I remember Dad singing Shaddap Your Face round the house quite theatrically. Great choices. I premature hivejaculated and posted a story instead of my #ttt so I'll do one next week.

Air raids and drills? Where do you live?

They don't usually do air raids here in South Korea, but sometimes they do. They said it's for safety, but all they can do is evacuate the building. It reminded of the drills we had in the 80s. It was hot that afternoon. It's much better now, but it is 6am so the weather is usually cooler at this time. Hope you enjoyed your Thursday. It's TGIFriday here.
