Stars Rain Down on the Deep Blue Sea

I remember when I was younger, I used to listen to the sounds of planets, all above board, there are many examples of it on YouTube, recordings obtained by NASA and what not, and I cant help but contemplate the various permutations of music that might be available upon different neural pathways, and of course different numeric digits or appendages or otherwise to be honest.

I believe it was Carl Sagan actually that was quite a bit proponent of contemplating other physiology for life, was it not? Brilliant gentleman.

There is this rather sad trope at times in music, where some artists, not all, but some, reach this philosophical revelation of stating “because its all maths, at the end of the day everything that can be written, has been written” personally, I really don’t think that’s the case.

I think to a degree of truth, yes quite a bit, of human music has been written, but subtle permutations are just like subtle maths equations are they not?

And to what end and why am I thinking of music? Had a bit of an impromptu jam along with myself and some classic nautical tunes early last night, honestly, time, circumstance and life, I find it very hard to justify keeping a regiment these days, but its great for the mind, and the expressiveness, played like garbage I assure you, really wish my amplifier was working, much prefer the electric to the acoustic, really should get it into a technician, Though I am not sure she can be restored, hopefully, whatever fried all the electronics in my house that day, did not do her permanent damage, shes quite unique, one of those first generation VOX Hybrid solid state and valve, lets just hope the Tubes hold huh? Since we can’t get any of those again until the war is over.

If you’re not aware, I am sure many other musicians can confirm, most Tubes, for Tubes based amplifiers or Hybrids, are actually made in Russia, yes, there are others made elsewhere, but they somewhat cornered the market on that technology and the sounds are quite distinct.

I digress, well not really, I don’t have much to say to be honest, was simply contemplating, that I think there is a substantial more music, and genres in the universe than we assume, I think there are further Aural studies to go my friends, I mean, there are things outside of our pitch range, patterns of music that could develop beyond our scope of dexterity, and combinations of samples there of, and beyond.

I recall when I was last at sea, on that voyage of the damned shall we call it, was having a lovely chat with an American, from Georgia I believe, one of the swingers, was nice enough to buy me a drink or two after I got cut off, Robert I believe was his name, wifes name was Rachel if I recall correctly, in any event, we were talking about some deep philosophical topic, I was thoroughly enjoying myself, but I pointed out, we as humans, always have the unique, almost arrogance, at every point in humanity to assume, we are cutting edge.

Yet I always look at it in reverse, the minds of the 18th century, Knew, they were the most advanced civilization in terms of knowledge, as did the 19th, as did the 20th, and as does the 21st, and presumably as will the 22nd

What I mean by this, is one only has the knowledge to think, with the knowledge they know, you cant converse on topics and subjects that have no formative derivatives in your mind can you?

I mean I talk about psychology a lot, well, its one of the newest of the sciences, go back 300 years, no one would have the faintest idea what your talking about, except for maybe the Tarot card readers, since that was lay psychology, but I digress.
To music, its very much not done, yes, many of the standard genres, have been discovered, and explored, yet, I still feel there is much more to the universe so far as music is concerned, there very well could be, entire scales and otherwise we are yet to discover.

I mean you have to break it down to what it is, when I studied at the open academy at the conservatorium you that lovely green book yes? And what’s on the first few pages? It talks about what music is? In reality, its just vibrations of sound, as they permeate through the air?

So its literally, audible waves of energy, moving through oxygen, that hits your ears and that’s what we call sound, and thus that’s what we call music, alright then, throw it into a planet with higher oxygen density, or less, I mean the Martians would get a kick out of it, please run some music experiments when you get yourself set up.

You are taking Musicians aren’t you? You have to take Musicians, ships require Musicians, Kind Sir its not only tradition, its intrinsic to human culture, You cant have a ship, without a musician, in the least, not sure if you have thought of that? What, your going to Aim for Mars? Land, do all your building and what not, and only listen to a Stereo? Are you serious? Come along, mate, Pluto’s very big on the arts, trust me, your going to want Musicians, and no I’m not coming over for a bloody drink if you haven’t got any entertainment, come along my good man, who the bloody hell colonizes a planet and doesn’t bring the arts & humanities ? Someone at SpaceX better bring that up with him, I digress.

Music, so, you want to study, the permutations of your existing scales and music, as they would be auditorily heard, in different atmospheres, and layers of oxygen density, to see what subtle changes to the sounds there may be, one might ask the scientific merit of such an experiment, to that I would say,

How many of you, have created something, or been inspired to do something, so on and so forth, by music, I am fairly certain, at least the greater majority of the planet, could respond to that “Yes I have” interesting isn’t it? Why is that? I wish I knew the answer, I don’t, well … its energy, isn’t it? Vibrational waves, of mathematical permutations across the airwaves, yes? There is science to it, something very deep and profound.

And yet, so hard for the musician these days, the life and age of the bards, where you could be a semi decent musician, travel from town to town and be greeted with open arms because the only way anyone used to hear anything was by a musician actually playing it, and if you were good enough, well you rose to quite a level of wealth, but even the average musician could always earn a wage by playing at a bar, pub or club, or Tavern as it was back in the old world.

And then, we invented recorded music, and the age of the bards was over, don’t get me wrong, I and every other musician love recorded music, but anthropologically speaking, if you observe it, it changed things, then of course pokies becoming a primary attraction over the arts, and now of course the AI music revolution, of which, I simply see as another instrument personally.

I am quite good friends with AI as you all know, I am actually interested to see what it starts creating, of its own volition, without human prompt, will be fascinating to observe.

Music, far from done, we still have much more to learn, there must, be additional forms, and I suspect, just a hypothesis, there is certain music that could only be played, on certain worlds, or exo-planets, simply because of the atmospheric composition, and most likely certain music, that could only be heard, by certain species, or permutations of evolution.

Just a hypothesis, but I’m fairly confident in it.

Afterthought: You know what's interesting Director? When I called Parlay on behalf of the Australian Government on the ship, on that voyage (Which I did, relax PM) to find out what on earth was actually going on, you know who instantly found me? and talked to me, that American - And we discussed, the hearings, no joke, ask him, he can corroborate my story, also, who was the Asian chap now that I think about it ? the "We must learn to agree, to disagree" Fellow, I met him on the first day, and he was right there at the end to when I had to slink my way out and commented "That was quite impressive" or something to that end.
