Mi sto preparando per un concerto in streaming che terrò a Mantova a febbraio. Quando mi preparo per un concerto o una produzione, ho bisogno di calmare la mia mente, abbassare le vibrazioni, come se entrassi in una specie di trance sveglia, insomma, una specie di meditazione, serve a rallentare le tensioni.

Di solito immagino che i miei pensieri siano come automobili su un’autostrada, li vedo correre, sfrecciare e allora mi siedo e li guardo viaggiare mentre la mia mente si rilassa ascoltando musica…

qualunque tipo, ovviamente preferisco l’acustico.

Oggi mi sono dedicato al blues, al vecchio sano blues, mi è sempre piaciuta una canzone di Rev. Gary Davis – Death Don’t Have No Mercy.

Lasciatemi dire che il Reverendo era un genio, vero e proprio. Praticamente ha costruito un intero riff alternativo su un classico giro di Fa Minore, il punto è che lui lo amplifica utilizzando pochissime corde, ne usa una o due insieme sulla base per sostenere la voce, per il resto tutto si sviluppa intorno a tre capotasti. Allucinante!!! Ci ho messo diverse ore, perché vedete, quando ho il desiderio di imparare una canzone blues, non mi interessa seguire l’esatta tecnica riproduttiva, le tablature, gli accordi per me rappresentano barriere ad un’esperienza più vasta, non sono guide, ma ostacoli. Vi propongo all’occasione un video girato proprio a Mantova, un blues in italiano in acustico, stavo facendo il soundcheck e mi stavo scaldando.

Quindi, nella mia ricerca, prima scopro l’accordatura, poi cerco la tonalità, poi inizio a ripetere le note seguendo la voce, poi metto insieme altre corde e via andare fino a che entro nella testa del compositore… e poi ricreo una versione mia, questo era quello che facevano e ancora oggi fanno i grandi maestri del blues, ascoltavano una canzone e la scomponevano fino ad estrarne una composizione tutta propria distinta e oltre che unica differente dall’originale a volte.

L’ esempio più grande che posso proporvi è

Mississippi John Hurt Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor.

È accaduto anche per un’altra grandissima canzone in principio scritta da Reverend Gary Davis - Cocaine Blues

ripresa in seguito da Jackson Brown, che al periodo aveva perso il figlio e stava attraversando momenti terribili, la quale divenne più famosa dell’originale, ma fu cambiata nel testo, da Jackson Brown.

Insomma qui si parla di condivisione di emozioni, è quello che i burocrati non capiscono, la proprietà intellettuale non serve a nessuno… Serve solo a voi banchieri e burocrati, io spero che vi renderete conto prima o poi che avete fallito in tutta la linea. I'm gearin' up for a live stream gig I'm gonna do in Mantova in February. When you gotta prep for a gig or a production, I need to chill my mind, lower the vibes, kinda like entering a sorta awake trance, basically a type of meditation, it helps to slow down the tensions.

Usually, I picture my thoughts as cars on a highway, I see 'em runnin', zoomin' and then I sit down and watch 'em travel while my mind relaxes listening to music.. any kind, obviously I prefer acoustic.

Today I dedicated myself to the blues, the good old blues, I've always liked a song by Rev. Gary Davis -- Death Don't Have No Mercy. Let me tell ya, the Reverend was a genius, a real one.

Basically, he built an entire alternative riff on a classic F minor round, the point is that he amplifies it using very few strings, he uses one or two together on the base to support the voice, for the rest everything develops around three capos.

Mind-blowing!!!

It took me several hours, 'cause you see, when I have the desire to learn a blues song, I don't care about following the exact reproductive technique, the tablature, the chords for me represent barriers to a wider experience, they are not guides, but obstacles.

I propose to you on occasion a video shot right in Mantova, a blues in Italian in acoustic, I was doing the soundcheck and warming up. So, in my research, first I discover the tuning, then I look for the key, then I start repeating the notes following the voice, then I put together other strings and off I go until I get into the head of the composer... and then I recreate a version of my own, this was what the great masters of the blues did and still do today, they listened to a song and broke it down until they extracted a composition all their own distinct and besides unique different from the original sometimes.

The greatest example I can propose to you is

It also happened for another great song originally written by Reverend Gary Davis - Cocaine Blues, used by Townes Van Zandt and later taken up by Jackson Brown, who at the time had lost his son and was going through terrible times, which became more famous than the original, but was changed in the text, by Jackson Brown.

In short, here we are talking about sharing emotions, and what bureaucrats don't understand, intellectual property doesn't serve anyone...
