[ESP] | [ENG] - Cápsula Musical: OCTUBRE y lo nuevo de Demi, Elena Rose y LE SSERAFIM

Octubre fue un mes bastante cargado de estrenos musicales. Tuvimos el regreso de Demi Lovato con su noveto álbum de estudio titulado It's Not That Deep, también el tan esperado álbum The Life of a Showgirl de la bellísima Taylor Swift. En el mundo del k-pop tuvimos Spaghetti una de las que considero ha sido una de las mejores colaboraciones de esta industria de la mano del grupo femenino Le Sserafim junto a J-Hope de BTS. De este lado del charco, en Latinoamérica, la enezolana Elena Rose finalmente debutó con su álbum Bendito Verano, mientras que la chilenomexicana Mon Laferte estrenó Femme Fatale.

Y esto es sólo por mencionar algo, pues realmente muchos otros artistas que quizás se escapan un poco de mi radar estrenaron colaboraciones e incluso promocionaron próximos álbumes con sus sencillos. Las recomendaciones musicales del día de hoy van dedicadas a esas nuevas joyitas musicales estrenadas en Octubre que resultaron ser todo un fenómeno y que estoy segura continuarán dejando una gran huella en los fanáticos.

October was a busy month for music releases. We had the return of Demi Lovato with her new studio album titled It's Not That Deep, as well as the long-awaited album The Life of a Showgirl by the beautiful Taylor Swift. In the world of K-pop, we had Spaghetti, which I consider to be one of the best collaborations in the industry, featuring the girl group Le Sserafim alongside J-Hope from BTS. On this side of the pond, in Latin America, Venezuelan Elena Rose finally debuted with her album Bendito Verano, while Chilean-Mexican Mon Laferte released Femme Fatale.

And that's just to mention a few, because there are many other artists who may have slipped under my radar who released collaborations and even promoted upcoming albums with their singles. Today's music recommendations are dedicated to those new musical gems released in October that turned out to be a phenomenon and that I'm sure will continue to leave a big mark on fans.

Llegué a esta canción, evidentamente, por ser fanática de BTS y por la curiosidad de cómo sería la participación de J-Hope. En oportunidades anteriores había escuchado algunas canciones de Le Sserafim pero sinceramente no les había prestado demasiada atención, básicamente porque me cuesta un poco hacer click (por alguna razón que desconozco) con los grupos de K-Pop femeninos. Sin embargo, desde esta canción me tomé la tarea de indagar más en el trabajo de este grupo de chicas y ahora sí puedo decirles que tengo un grupo femenino de K-Pop favorito. Pero, ok, regresemos a la canción. Spaghetti es una de esas canciones con un sonido bastante adictivo, te envuelve y simplemente no puedes dejar de escucharla una y otra vez.

Al inicio la letra parece un poco extraña y sin sentido, como si se tratara de una canción más destinada a ser sólamente viral y fácilmente usable en trends de TikTok, pero no, las chicas utilizan la cocina y la comida como una especie de metáfora para describir esas experiencias que nos pueden resultar un tanto adictivas e intensas, ustedes saben, difíciles de sacar de la mente. En uno de los conciertos, las chicas hablaban acerca de que la idea principal de esta canción es simplemente ser inolvidables: "quedar grabadas en la mente de la gente como la comida entre los dientes" y vaya que sí supieron como lograr esto.

I came across this song, obviously, because I'm a fan of BTS and was curious to hear J-Hope's contribution. I had heard a few songs by Le Sserafim before, but honestly, I hadn't paid much attention to them, mainly because I find it a little difficult to connect with female K-Pop groups for some reason I can't quite explain. However, after hearing this song, I decided to look into this girl group's work more, and now I can say that I have a favorite female K-Pop group. But, okay, let's get back to the song. “Spaghetti” is one of those songs with a pretty addictive sound; it envelops you, and you just can't stop listening to it over and over again.

At first, the lyrics seem a little strange and meaningless, as if it were just another song intended to go viral and be easily used in TikTok trends, but no, the girls use cooking and food as a kind of metaphor to describe those experiences that can be somewhat addictive and intense, you know, difficult to get out of your mind. At one of their concerts, the girls talked about how the main idea behind this song is simply to be unforgettable: “to remain etched in people's minds like food between their teeth,” and boy, did they know how to achieve that.

Elena Rose es por mucho una de mis cantantes latinas favoritas. No sólo es una artista con muchísimo talento, sino también transmite una energía muy bonita y única en cada una de sus composiciones musicales y, obviamente, sobre el escenario. Como seguidora de su música me alegra muchísimo poder disfrutar de un álbum musical de ella. No es que ella no tenga otras canciones, de hecho sí, pero muchas de esos sencillos han sido colaboraciones con cantantes conocidos.

Gyoza es la quinta canción de su álbum Bendito Verano y si conoces un poco sobre gastronomía asiática ya podrás saber qué es una Gyoza, ¿no? si es así, te puedes ir haciendo una idea de por donde va encaminada la canción: nuevamente nos inclinamos hacia las metáforas culinarias que le añaden un poco de sensualidad a la letra de la canción. Algo que tiene Elena Roso es que sabe transmitir sensualidad ligada a la feminidad de una manera muy sutil sin caer en lo vulgar. Realmente este álbum musical tiene otras canciones realmente geniales y bonitas, pero creo que eso da como para hablarlo en un post más amplio.

Elena Rose is by far one of my favorite Latin singers. Not only is she a very talented artist, but she also conveys a beautiful and unique energy in each of her musical compositions and, of course, on stage. As a fan of her music, I am very happy to be able to enjoy one of her albums. It's not that she doesn't have other songs, in fact she does, but many of those singles have been collaborations with well-known singers.

Gyoza is the fifth song on her album Bendito Verano, and if you know a little about Asian cuisine, you'll already know what a gyoza is, right? If so, you can get an idea of where the song is headed: once again, we lean toward culinary metaphors that add a touch of sensuality to the lyrics. One thing Elena Roso has going for her is that she knows how to convey sensuality linked to femininity in a very subtle way without falling into vulgarity. This album really has other great and beautiful songs, but I think that's enough to talk about in a longer post.

He escuchado It's Not That Deep varias veces desde que fue estrenado por completo y cada vez que lo reproduzco puedo diferenciar un matiz distinto, un sonido que no había notado la primera vez que lo escuché o una pizca más de sentimentalismo en la voz de Lovato que había pasado por alto. Esto es como las películas, señores, mientras más las ves puedes notar detalles que se te pasaron por alto la primera vez. No puedo decir que tengo una canción favorita de este álbum porque les estaría regalando una gran mentira, pero lo que sí puedo asegurar es que el sonido tan ligero y despreocupado con el que regresó Demi es maravilloso. Las influencias de pop electrónico y dance quedan en total evidencia lo que marca una diferencia considerable en contraste con sus trabajos anteriores.

Sin embargo, a pesar de que este sonido es mucho más fresco y bailable, las letras de las canciones siguen siendo profundas y te invitan a la reflexión. En el caso particular de Before I Knew You, la letra porfundiza sobre el impacto no tan positivo que una relación puede tener en la identidad personal. La letra es un poco dura cuando prestas especial atención, sobretodo el fragmento: "I tried so hard to be your somebody else. You liked me small enough to fit on your shelf" y, sí, ¿cuántas veces no se ha cometido el error de minimizarnos a nosotros mismos sólo por querer encajar en el mundo de alguien más? Siento que muchas personas se podrán sentir identificados con esta canción, en especial aquellos que han llegado a experimentar una relación tóxica y que simplemente buscan reencontrar su verdadero yo después de la ruptura.

I've listened to It's Not That Deep several times since it was released in its entirety, and every time I play it, I can pick up on a different nuance, a sound I didn't notice the first time I heard it, or a hint more sentimentality in Lovato's voice that I had overlooked. It's like movies, folks: the more you watch them, the more you notice details you missed the first time around. I can't say I have a favorite song on this album because that would be a big lie, but what I can say for sure is that Demi's lighthearted, carefree sound is wonderful. The electronic pop and dance influences are clearly evident, marking a considerable difference in contrast to her previous work.

However, even though this sound is much fresher and more danceable, the lyrics of the songs remain deep and thought-provoking. In the particular case of Before I Knew You, the lyrics delve into the not-so-positive impact that a relationship can have on personal identity. The lyrics are a bit harsh when you pay close attention, especially the line: "I tried so hard to be your somebody else. You liked me small enough to fit on your shelf." And yes, how many times have we made the mistake of minimizing ourselves just to fit into someone else's world? I feel that many people will be able to identify with this song, especially those who have experienced a toxic relationship and are simply looking to rediscover their true selves after the breakup.
