Otro post en esta comunidad y por supuesto, otra reseña de música. En esta ocasión les hablaré de uno de mis artistas favoritos de los últimos años, Joji, concretamente de su primer álbum de estudio oficial Ballads 1 («Baladas 1»). Publicado en 88rising en el 2018, cuenta con 12 canciones para un total de media hora de duración. El género principal es el lofi con mezclas de R&B, pop, trap, entre otros, marcando así un nuevo estilo alternativo.
Another post in this community and of course, another music review. On this occasion I will talk to you about one of my favorite artists of the last few years, Joji , specifically about his first official studio album Ballads 1 . Published on 88rising in 2018, it has 12 songs for a total of half an hour in length. The main genre is lofi with mixtures of R&B, pop, trap, among others, in that way marking a new alternative style.
Este álbum está principalmente producido y compuesto por el propio Joji, aunque hay colaboraciones con Clams Casino, D33J, Shlohmo y Trippie Redd. Sin embargo, en todas las canciones se nota el estilo característico del artista que es básicamente una triste mezcla de varios géneros, es decir, sus letras son en esencia absolutamente tristes; habla de amor, desamor y la vida que hay en medio de ambas cosas. Esto lo acompaña con los elementos simples, suaves y nostálgicos del lofi, a su vez cuando desea agregar toques extras lo combina con pop, R&B y el resto de géneros que ya mencioné. En general es un popurrí de géneros musicales.
This album is mainly produced and composed by Joji himself, although there are collaborations with Clams Casino, D33J, Shlohmo and Trippie Redd. However, in all the songs you can see the artist's characteristic style, which is basically a sad mixture of several genres, that is, his lyrics are essentially absolutely sad; he talks about love, heartbreak and the life that exists in between both things. This accompanies him with the simple, soft and nostalgic elements of lofi. In turn when he wants to add extra touches he combines it with pop, R&B and the rest of the genres that I already mentioned. In general it is a medley of musical genres.
Todas las canciones tienen esa vibra nostálgica, que te hace reflexionar y quedarte pensando en la vida. Este álbum es como para ponerse los audífonos y acostarse a sólo escuchar y pensar. Por supuesto algo que si eres muy sensible quizá no sea muy recomendable porque creo que la mayoría de canciones te puede hacer llorar.
Un ejemplo claro es el single más famoso de Joji, Slow Dancing in the Dark («Baile lento en la oscuridad»). La letra es completamente triste, hablando de desamor y una especie de luto por esa relación ya terminada. Refleja esa desesperanza de tener la certeza de que las cosas ya no funcionarán nunca más. Pero lo que también hace esta canción tan buena es su composición musical tan extraña. En cuanto a composición no sé casi nada, por lo que no sería la mejor persona para explicarlo, pero la escala, los sonidos, todo lo que conforma la canción tiene una estructura alterada. Es verdaderamente un popurrí súper loco pero que de alguna manera funciona.
Si no la has escuchado, definitivamente tienes que hacerlo. Y Joji siendo un artista congruente, el vídeo musical de la canción es igualmente extraño pero genial.
All the songs have that nostalgic vibe, which makes you reflect and think about life. This album is like putting on your headphones and laying in bed just listening and thinking. Of course, something it's that if you are very sensitive may not be highly recommended because I think most of the songs can make you cry.
A clear example is Joji's most famous single, Slow Dancing in the Dark. The lyrics are completely sad, talking about heartbreak and a kind of mourning for that relationship that has already ended. It reflects that hopelessness of being certain that things will never work out again. But what also makes this song so good is its strange musical composition. As for composition, I know almost nothing so I wouldn't be the best person to explain it, but the scale, the sounds, everything that makes up the song has an altered structure. It's truly a super crazy medley but it somehow works.
If you haven't listened to it yet, you definitely need to. And Joji being a congruent artist, the music video of the song is equally strange but cool.
Hay otras canciones como Yeah right («Sí claro») que también habla de desamor pero la producción es completamente distinta por lo que la vibra resulta muy diferente. Incluso da ganas de bailar lo cual genera un contraste interesante. Es increíble el peso que tiene una buena producción musical. No todo es la letra o la voz, es también los arreglos que hay detrás.
There are other songs like Yeah right that also talks about heartbreak but the production is completely different so the vibe is very different as well. It even makes you want to dance which creates an interesting contrast. It is incredible the weight that a good musical production has. It's not all about the lyrics or the voice, it's also about the arrangements behind it.
Creo que el trabajo de Joji es interesante justamente por los contrastes, desde letras depresivas con música bailable, hasta videos bizarros sin mucho sentido para una canción de amor. Por supuesto también marcó una diferencia en la música de la época, donde desde mi punto de vista la música mainstream era toda igual. Escuchar un pop/lofi/trap y otras cosas más era raro y muy bueno.
Joji destaca por ser diferente
I think Joji's work is interesting precisely because of the contrasts, from depressive lyrics with dance music, to bizarre music videos without much sense for a love song. Of course it also made a difference in the music at the time, where from my point of view mainstream music was all the same. Listening to pop/lofi/trap and other things was strange and very good.

Incluso la estética en sus videos musicales y la presentación del álbum es diferente, con un toque de la estética de los 90's mezclado con cosas que parecen no tener mucho sentido. ¿Cómo funciona eso? Ni idea, pero funciona y queda muy bien. Es simplemente un artista alternativo que disfruta de experimentar con su creatividad.
Even the aesthetic in his music videos and album presentation is different, with a touch of 90's aesthetic mixed with things that don't seem to make much sense. How does this work? No idea, but it works and looks great. He is simply an alternative artist who enjoys experimenting with his creativity.

Es un artista que recomiendo al 100% porque considero que es música diferente que puede transmitir mucho con poco, cosa que considero difícil de lograr. Con poco no me refiero a baja calidad o falta de profundidad, sino que el lofi musicalmente tiene pocos elementos (o eso me han explicado) pero Joji agregando arreglos y toques de otros géneros logra una combinación que puede conmoverte y hacerte repetir sus canciones sin parar.
Éste es hasta la fecha uno de sus mejores álbumes.
He is an artist that I recommend 100% because I consider that he has different music that can convey a lot with little, something that I consider difficult to achieve. By little I do not mean low quality or lack of depth, but rather that musically lofi has few elements (or so they have explained to me) but Joji adding arrangements and touches from other genres achieves a combination that can move you and make you repeat his songs non-stop.
This is one of the best albums he has published to date.

Ya vali jajaja aunque no he sufrido aun de desamores que me lleven a la tristeza profunda, igual me pongo sensible cuando una cancion tiene una melodia llegadera, no solo por la letra, sino el ritmo que tenga, la nostalgia y eso, soy pesima explicando jajaa
No conocia a este artista, le voy a echar alguna hojeada porque a mi me gusta este estilo de musica 👌👀 con la musica soy cursi, pero como persona no jajaja que ironia 😂

Jajajajaaj es que aunque no hayas tenido algún desamor sus canciones son capaces de hacerte sentir nostálgica por algo que no ha pasado 😅. Yo tampoco he tenido desamores y me hace sentir así jajajaa
