Drummers Embrace The Use of Loop in Church

Whether you like it or not the usage of loop in Churches will keep striving.

I have personally heard alot of critics about the usage of loop in church.

They say it makes a drummer lazy
They say it makes him uncreative
They say it makes him dull

Now most of these drummers criticizing the use of loop in Churches today are those drummers that even have issue without timing, instead of them to embrace it and learn how to work with it, they in turn criticize it as they don't know how to play with it.

For those that don't know what a loop is, Loop is a length of rhythm or a rhythm pattern that is doubled over and over again for the sole aim of achieving timing. You can't understand what loop is if you don't know what a rhythm is!!

What is a rhythm? Rhythm is a specifically defined pattern of a beat. So loop is centered at a rhythm (specifically defined pattern) that is being doubled over and over again, which can also be said to be a rhythm that is being repeated over and over again.

Metronome is a loop; just that it is mostly a tick, tick, and tick kind of rhythm that is being used in a metronome.

What is the function of a loop?

The number one function of a loop is to keep the musicians timing but looking at Nigeria contemporary music, Praise loops are always danceable and the importance of that is that:

1. It help the musician to keep to a specific tempo.
2. It helps the drummer mostly especially, to last longer on the drum, with a loop you don’t need to stress yourself as a drummer too much, you just have to follow the loop.
3. It gives the instrumentalist time to think before initiating any groove.

The contemporary music has embraced the use of loop, if you are that drummer in the 21st century and you don't want to embrace the use of loop then you're missing out!.
