Tracks I turned into unconventional lullabies (Eng/Esp)

I am really not a conventional person from any point of view, and so when motherhood arrived, it was no exception either. This does not mean that I am permissive or one of those who wants to be friends with the children, but within the discipline that I impart to them, I seek for it to be something fun and easily assimilated.

But I am not going to talk about motherhood here, just that recently as I woke up my youngest son, the song that I used to sing to him when he was just a baby came to my mind, and it became his lullaby for many years.
Back then, my second child had a very light sleep, so I had to get up and cradle him in the early morning hours, and it was this song that accompanied us in those moments.

"Cachito Mío", a song interpreted in spanish by Nat King Cole, to which I modified the word "cachito" to "Fabrizzio", the name of my baby, because phonetically they are very similar, it was an expression of the love I feel for him from the moment I found out I was pregnant.

This song was sung to us by my dad when my brother and I were kids, and one day my mom heard me singing it to my son and it brought this memory to mind, as although I knew that dad listened to the great Cole, I did not associate him dedicating that song to us as well.

But the story really began long ago, precisely with my first child. Being a first-time mother, I was distressed when he cried and everything I tried to do to calm him down didn't work.

My last option was to hold him and sing one of Elvis Presley's ballads in his ear that I had learned during my English lessons in Trinidad and Tobago. "Love me tender" by Elvis has the ideal rhythm to make him relax and fall asleep quickly.

The loveliest thing was to hear him, when he was 2 years old, sing that song in his own way (since he doesn't speak English) and then the lyrics went from "Love me tender, love me sweet" to "lomi teme, lomi fuiii!"

Even today sometimes I sing them to them, and their reaction is to ask if they already knew that song, as it sounds familiar to them. So these two songs, which were an expression of love, one to a woman from Elvis and one to her children from Nat King Cole, deeply resonated in the minds of my little ones.

And have you chosen a conventional song to turn it into a lullaby for your children?

The fact that they thought the songs were familiar is really cute. Now I believe we need to be careful with the things we utter in the presence of children, they absorb everything. I love that your dad passed on the tradition of singing to the kids and I hope your kids will do the same. From all you described, I believe you have a beautiful family 🥰😍🧡

I completely agree with what you say. They see and hear everything, and repeat sometimes without knowing what it means.
