Music that sets our clocks

Recently, while scrolling through my feed, I came across an interesting study on how music affects our perception of time. Scientists from the University of Guadalajara have shown that listening to music can literally rewire the brain, strengthening connections between different areas and helping us to more accurately estimate the duration of events.
The experiment compared musicians and people without musical training. It turned out that musicians' brains already function like a well-oiled machine: their perception of time is stable and hardly changes under the influence of music. However, the situation is different for “non-musicians” — in silence, they made mistakes more often, but after listening to an electronic composition, their estimates of time became noticeably more accurate.

Researchers explain this by the fact that music acts as a synchronizer: it helps the brain organize local processes and build more coordinated neural networks. It turns out that even brief exposure to music can improve our sense of time, and those who have been involved in music for years develop a more globally integrated brain structure that is resistant to external influences.
Of course, the authors note some limitations: the study was conducted only on young men and with one musical genre. But the idea itself is impressive — music is not just entertaining, it can change fundamental cognitive processes.
So, if you suddenly feel that time is slipping away or the day is dragging on endlessly, turn on your favorite tune. It may help you reset your internal clock.
