I’m back again for Week 161 Round 2, and honestly, this one was fun in a different way. I wanted something lively, something with that unmistakable Nigerian flavour that carries both joy and groove. So I went with “Joromi” by Simi, but what really pulled me into doing this was Fiokee’s guitar work. The man is just… something else. I tried to play the guitar parts exactly like him — or at least get as close as my hands would allow.

Aquí estoy de nuevo para la Semana 161, Ronda 2, y sinceramente, esta fue una experiencia distinta y muy divertida. Quería algo más movido, algo con ese sabor nigeriano que tiene alegría y ritmo al mismo tiempo. Así que elegí “Joromi” de Simi, pero lo que realmente me motivó fue la guitarra de Fiokee. Ese tipo está en otro nivel. Intenté tocar las partes de guitarra igualito que él — o al menos lo más cerca que mis manos pudieron llegar.

I’ve always admired how Fiokee manages to make a guitar line feel like it’s dancing — bright, melodic, playful, and full of life. Trying to recreate that was both challenging and enjoyable. I kept replaying his riffs, slowing them down, and seeing if I could capture that same sweetness he brings. It’s not perfect, but it’s my little tribute to one of the greats.

Siempre he admirado cómo Fiokee logra que una línea de guitarra se sienta como si estuviera bailando — brillante, melódica, juguetona y llena de vida. Intentar recrear eso fue tanto un desafío como un gusto. Repetí sus riffs una y otra vez, los bajé de velocidad, y traté de capturar esa misma dulzura que él transmite. No está perfecto, pero es mi pequeño homenaje a uno de los grandes.

Recording this reminded me of how much I miss this kind of music — that soft pop blended with highlife guitar. It took me home a bit. And I think that’s why this week’s entry feels special to me. It’s not just a cover; it’s a moment where sound, memory, and joy meet.

Grabar esto me recordó cuánto extraño este tipo de música — ese pop suave mezclado con guitarra highlife. Me llevó un poquito a casa. Y creo que por eso esta participación de la semana se siente especial para mí. No es solo un cover; es un momento donde el sonido, la memoria y la alegría se encuentran.
