As always, Hive Open Mic comes with a theme, and this week’s theme is “Somebody to Love.”
For me, this theme goes beyond romantic love. It speaks about the human need to connect, to feel seen, understood, and supported by someone. Sometimes, “somebody to love” can be a friend, family, or even the love we find in music itself. As artists, I believe music often becomes that “somebody” we lean on when life feels heavy or uncertain
Como siempre, Hive Open Mic llega con un tema, y el tema de esta semana es “Somebody to Love”.
Para mí, este tema va más allá del amor romántico. Habla de la necesidad humana de conectar, de sentirse visto, comprendido y acompañado por alguien. A veces, “alguien para amar” puede ser un amigo, la familia o incluso el amor que encontramos en la música. Como artistas, creo que muchas veces la música se convierte en ese “alguien” en quien nos apoyamos cuando la vida se siente pesada o incierta.
For this week, I’ll be presenting a beautiful song by Fito Páez called “Dos en la ciudad.”
This is a song that took me a long time to learn because of its challenging chord progressions, the major and alternating chords, and also because of Fito Páez’s unique singing style, which is not very common and not easy to combine with playing at the same time.
Para esta semana, voy a presentar una hermosa canción de Fito Páez llamada “Dos en la ciudad”.
Es una canción que me tomó mucho tiempo aprender debido a la complejidad de sus progresiones de acordes, los acordes mayores y alternados, y también por el estilo de canto tan particular de Fito Páez, que no es muy común y no resulta fácil de combinar con la interpretación instrumental al mismo tiempo.
Even though this song doesn’t directly relate to the theme in a literal way, it still carries a strong emotional connection.
To me, it reflects companionship, shared moments, and the experience of two people walking through life together in the same city. In its own subtle way, that also speaks about having somebody to love.
Aunque esta canción no se relaciona directamente con el tema de forma literal, sí tiene una conexión emocional muy fuerte.
Para mí, refleja la compañía, los momentos compartidos y la experiencia de dos personas caminando juntas por la vida en una misma ciudad. De una manera sutil, eso también habla de tener a alguien para amar.

I must confess I was never a Fito Paez fan, but I know his greatest hits, and this is one of them. I love those 7th chords; they always evoke a dual feeling, like joy and nostalgia, a beautiful and pleasant way to remember. I completely understand you practiced it a lot because it's complex, but you nailed it, and your voice sounded spectacular, brother. Congratulations on this great performance.
