I want to use this medium and opportunity to say a very big hello to you all because it has been a while since I had not been around here in the music community. Truly, I had been uneasy about it because I have missed out on the quality content that amazing creatives have been putting out here.

Today I come back with a new vibe, a vibe that I have enjoyed recently. I would like to introduce you to my recent musical discovery. It is a unique genre of music known as Neo-highlife. Highlife, an African genre, mostly enjoyed in the west of Africa, especially in Nigeria dates back to the late 19th century. It has passed through series of musical evolutions like every other genre.

These days, I discovered a band, a group of two, a drummer and a bassist who call themselves, the cave men and they have successfully fusioned highlife music with the neo soul vibe. I don't really know if they have a name for this unique sound that they create but I have decided to tag it as Neo Highlife because, their music has retained the basic tempo and tunes of highlife and younger people have begun to become interested in highlife music. Note that, highlife had been seen as a music for the elderly.

Thanks to the cave men, highlife music is now enjoyed by younger folks and have become more appealing with recent messages.

Today, I have selected one of their debut songs titled, Osondu which means, Life struggles. In the song, the singer encourages resilience in life's journey. The song lyrics is in Igbo language. I am only presenting an acoustic version and I hope you enjoy it!
