The Songs That Shaped My Year: A Look at My SoundCloud Playback 2022
2022 Playback
It seems like soundcloud is pretty late doing the playback but I appreciate that it allows me to see my listening history dating back to 2019 on this account (which is not my oldest, but one that I continue to use). Though these days people use spotify or joox, I am sticking to soundcloud because it helps me discover underground and underrated musicians. Although you can do that on Spotify, it’s just something I am comfortable with. The only cons of soundcloud to me is that new hit songs are not available and the platform is restricting some content to US-only listeners. So, I have to use vpn just to listen to newer songs and any creators who create geo-restriction to their songs. Other than that, I still can listen to music just fine. Speaking of my playback, they have certainly changed over the last 4 years. If my 2019 was dominated by blackbear and its friends, this year luke chiang is my top playback in 2022. I am going to talk about that in detail and I know it’s not Tuesday anymore but here we go!
What's fun?
Soundcloud created a playlist based on the most listened songs that we do in a year. This year, in my playlist I have 49 tracks which is slightly less than the previous years. The top track this year is from Luke Chiang with a song titled May I ask. In the past, I have reviewed Luke Chiang in one of my three tunes tuesday. I always listen to him whenever I am working, writing, and at a cafe. I just think that deserves more recognition for his smooth voice and lyrical songs. His voice and songs are soothing to listen to and I always put myself in a good mood.
This year, I apparently also listened to Robin Thicke’s titled back together quite often. I like the beat, the music video but overall, the ambience that the song has. The one I listen to is also a remix with so many drum beats. As far as I recall, this is the song that I listen to while working out too. So, no wonder that it made it to the playback.
One of the songs that I almost did not recognize is Malibu 1992 by Coin. It’s a sad, nostalgic song about a highschool sweetheart that is now long gone and the other person has moved on. I didn't even know why the song was in my playback but there is a pattern that type of song exists in all of my playbacks. So perhaps I was listening to it a lot at some point that I did not remember.
I am also thrilled to find You Got It by Vedo The singer made it to the list. This song, sung from a male perspective is trying to be supportive to the girl that just went through a breakup and then encouraging her to move on and boss up. This song lifted me up so many times and my favorite part of the song was this “don’t let nobody tell you that it’s over”, “Girl fuck that drama, If it ain't bout da money bounce”. Whenever I have a bad day and need a motivation boost, I always listen to it.
Also an old song and relatable favorite of mine titled “Moral of the story” by Ashe made it to the list. I personally followed her from day 1 when she wasn’t famous. Now that she is, I am happy she got the recognition she deserved because her voice is unique. She is also a songwriter and her lyrics show.
Last but not least, Adam Jensen made it to the list this year. I found his songs on a youtube playlist and now I am falling in love with his songs. His genre is rock and though I don’t often listen to this genre, sometimes I venture on this dark side to give my ears new stimuli and novelties. Baby Blue is the song that made it to my playlist but I also like his song titled, “ I am a sucker for a liar in a red dress”.
Bitter Pill
Anyway those are some of the songs that I have recollection of and most memorable to me. These days I keep repeating the song from Christian Kuria titled “ Bitter Pill”. It’s the beat and the lyrics that made me repeat the song a lot in a day. My most favorite lyrics is this part;
“I've been searching for the point of it
Moments that we share together losing their meaning
Tell me what the matter is
Feeling like you're fighting me for no fucking reason
Baby, take a break from it
Space from all the petty shit should give you healing” here
If you want to listen, I am leaving you the youtube link below. It has this jazzy vibe to it and definitely RnB. His voice is so low that even when I try to sing it, it’s pretty difficult despite that I am an alto. But yeah, it sounds odd when I try to sing it with my own style and following his note. Regardless of that, I still love this and the beat.

Sometimes I feel like life without music will be so boring....my love for music is immense
That's true! but at times I am also not listening music too much just to reset my ears.
Wow, that was a great year in music. I've to check out some of the artists in this playlist!
Do you also have a Soundcloud account? it might be worth it checking it out 😊
I just listened to May I Ask, that's a beautiful song, what a voice!
