Il giudice fa il giudice e quando in un verbale di polizia vede scritto che un italiano ha avuto una crisi in un’università ai danni di una studentessa americana, emette un'ordinanza restrittiva nei confronti di quel soggetto. I poliziotti fanno i poliziotti, il loro ruolo è prevenire i disordini e fanno di tutto, anche limitare la libertà in maniera arbitraria a chi sembra essere potenzialmente pericoloso. Ti prendono e ti portano in cella. Nessuno ha veramente abusato dei propri poteri, ognuno fa quello che deve fare, ognuno fa ciò che c'è da fare.
A volte si crede che ci sia ingiustizia da qualche parte, che la ragione per la quale due milioni di persone si trovano in prigione negli Stati Uniti sia da assegnare alla polizia, alla magistratura, ai detenuti o agli avvocati, pertanto molto numerosi. È vero, ci sono abusi di potere, razzismo, soprusi ai danni d’ispanici e ragazzi di colore, questo è vero, ma non è la ragione centrale e nemmeno l'origine del problema. Questi sono soltanto effetti, che è bene continuare a combattere, ma non sono la causa. Neanche la televisione è la causa, essendo soltanto l'amplificatore attraverso il quale tale sistema sta in piedi. La televisione funge da feedback, da specchio.
Quel sistema funziona e vive nell'illusione che ci sia un alto e un basso, vive nell'illusione che chi sta ai piani alti abbia un controllo su chi sta ai piani bassi, cosa vera solo in parte, vera nella percezione all'interno dei ruoli. Il sistema è un cerchio, un circolo vizioso dove in qualsiasi punto si sia, si ha l'obbligo di reggere una parte, di recitare un ruolo ben preciso. Per questo ogni libertà viene decifrata, catalogata, apprezzata, divenendo oggetto di marketing, politica e/o economia.
Questi sono gli strumenti con i quali avviene il “controllo”.
Il controllo reale avviene attraverso le emozioni e avviene in maniera molto più intima di quello che possiamo credere. Come disse il padre di Stefano, vissuto negli Stati Uniti per molto tempo, gli americani sono schiavi della loro stessa libertà. Le emozioni non sono libere, ma codificate.
Il sistema vive proprio grazie alle emozioni dei soggetti che in esso recitano la parte. Il detenuto ha la libertà di sfogare i suoi sentimenti in modo naturale e violento, mentre questa libertà non è concessa a un presidente che non ha e non avrà mai la libertà di mostrare in pubblico ...

The judge plays the judge and when he sees in a police report that an Italian had an attack on an American student at a university, he issues a restraining order against that person. Policemen are policemen, their job is to prevent disturbances, and they do everything, even arbitrarily restrict the freedom of those who appear to be potentially dangerous. They catch you and take you to a cell. No one has really abused their powers, everyone does what they have to do, everyone does what needs to be done.
Sometimes it is believed that there is injustice somewhere, that the reason there are two million people in prison in the United States is because of the police, the judiciary, the inmates or the lawyers, so many of them. True, there is abuse of power, racism, harassment of Hispanics and coloured boys, true, but that is not the central cause or even the source of the problem. These are only effects, which it is good to continue to fight, but they are not the cause. Television is not the cause either, it is only the amplifier through which this system stands. Television acts as a feedback, as a mirror.
This system functions and lives under the illusion that there is a top and a bottom, lives under the illusion that those at the top have control over those at the bottom, which is only partly true, true in the perception within the roles. The system is a circle, a vicious circle, where wherever you are, you are obliged to play a part, to play a certain role. This is why every freedom is decoded, catalogued, evaluated, and becomes an object of marketing, politics and/or economics.
These are the tools with which 'control' takes place.
Real control happens through emotions and it happens in a much more intimate way than we might think. As Stephen's father, who lived in the USA for a long time, said, Americans are slaves to their own freedom. Emotions are not free, they are coded.
The system thrives on the emotions of those who play a part in it. The prisoner has the freedom to express his feelings in a natural and violent way, whereas this freedom is not granted to a president who has not and will never have the freedom to express himself in public ...
