ADULTING AND THE MEANING OF LIFE.

Yesterday, I went to get some things from the market, and the prices of many items were so high that it got me thinking. When I got back home, I ended up calling a friend of mine to rant about the inflation in the country.

After giving ourselves time to complain about the situation in the country, we drifted back to the good old days, reminiscing about how things weren’t so tough and the country was not as hard.

Our childhood was quite fun, or at least there were fewer worries. We found ourselves laughing over silly things, and nothing was burdensome to us. We barely got annoyed, except maybe when we were asked to stop playing and do our homework.

Things weren’t as expensive as they used to be, and we enjoyed eating different biscuits and cookies from the same companies that have since shut down or reduced the quality of their products due to inflation. It is quite heartbreaking..

My friend laughed, saying “Adulthood can be quite hard. I didn’t picture it to be this stressful, I miss those days.”

The song “Best Days” by Alessia Cara crossed my mind. This song talks about the uncertainty of the future and challenges of adulthood. I feel a heartfelt connection, as it is so relatable—sometimes I think about this.

“Best days” is a self-reflective song and was released in the year 2021 under the album “in the meantime”. It focuses on the challenges of being in the present, the uncertainty of the future and the nostalgic feelings of the past. The song delves into themes of self-awareness and the journey of self-discovery as one grows.

So much harder to be honest
With yourself at 20-something
Wish I knew what I'm becoming

It captures the fear of missing out and the anxiety that comes with a moment that might never arrive which many young ones feel today. Where many of us run with our eyes closed, going through life without a clear vision or direction.

It shows that it is important to appreciate and enjoy every moment, because we often do not realize the importance of certain moments until they have passed, also to find meaning to the present while holding onto hope for the future.

Hoping, waiting on a moment
Not knowing if it's coming or it's going, mhm
What if my best days are the days I've left behind?

We aren’t sure of the future but need to hope for a better tomorrow while we enjoy the present that will soon become the past.

At the end of our conversation. I told the friend of mine that “Our present will always led us to our future. Let’s pay attention to it”

After our conversation, I put on the music and played “Eye of the Tiger,” a song by Survivor, to set the right atmosphere around me. It is an old rock song released in 1982, but it has powerful lyrics. It was a popular rock song. Call me old, but I just love the song.

“Eye of the Tiger” shows that human face challenges in life but still we need to persevere, hold out hope for the future we dream for ourselves. To get tough, learn, be courageous and grow through life.

Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

This song is a masterpiece that motivates, encourages us to stay determined and not give up.

In the end, the uncertainty of the future and the challenges of adulthood may be a part of life, but they don’t have to define it.

Eye of the Tiger is a classic especially for being part of the movie Rocky, but beyond that, it is super motivating to give a little more when we feel that there is no more strength.
Growing up really hurts a bit, especially when you're not, or don't feel ready. I remember when I was 17 years old I was at a crossroads that led me to become independent from my parents, financially. At the time it was hard, but now, many years later, I am grateful for that push that led me to make the right decisions that have served me for life.
