Some of my Favourite Things! - Chronicles #21

Some of the things that give me immense pleasure are...baking...(boring says some, not so, says I)...road trips, beaches, mountains, music, home decor, gardening, reading, competitions, funtimes, Hive blogging and kindred spirits....in no specific order. The list goes on...and on, but I will tell you about just some of my favourite things, and as Henry David Thoreau says:

I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life!

Baking has been a passion from a young age, as I shared many times here. I could not even read, but always asked for the decipe book, and was given my own dough to roll out and bake cookies. I like baking all kinds of things, but pastry became one of my passions. Obviously inspired by my Ouma and my Mom, both who loved working with pastry.
There's something special about seeing raw ingredients come together, working the dough by hand, and ending up with a delicious and sometimes spectacular home-baked treat.

Going on a road trip with my favourite people is the very best. Especially the spur-of-the-moment jaunts, where we just go where the road leads us. Inland and turning off the highway to explore new routes to find hidden gems, or a slow drive along the coastline, stopping at little coastal towns. Taking a walk in the sand and going as close as possible to where the waves break on the seashore, almost daring the waves. Or let the waves take my breath away when taking a dip in the sea. When I was a child, I could not get out of the water, frolicking in the ocean, and enjoying the waves. I'd fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks or the seashore, and still feel the waves gently lifting me in their arms. Just having fun in the sun, summer or winter! I was not sporty, always had my nose in books!

Music feeds the soul! Music has always played a significant role in my life, as I come from a musical family, particularly my Dad, who was self-taught and played many instruments. I played the piano, loved it, but when my babies came along, it had to take second place. Bringing up my sons was also one of my favourite things, but it took up a load of time. I could still listen, and have always had an eclectic taste in music: classical, pop-rock, jazz, folk, even a little bit of country. A snapshot of my old piano, complete with candlelabra; it needed much restoration. I gave it to a friend who is having that done. The other image is my Dad's old saxophone, which my brother still has, but doesn't play!

I went through a phase of entering competitions; yes, sounds silly, but it was exciting and very rewarding as I often struck it lucky;) On the radio, in magazines, and eventually online as well. Of course, a couple of baking competitions as well when the kids were small and could enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Although I only played netball and did rhythmic dancing at school, it doesn't stop me from watching many different types of sport; although football is my favourite (Liverpool!). I do love watching our Springboks play rugby, and that is happening very soon, so I will be signing off till next time!

I can't get past the piano with the candlelabra! The drives along the coastline, sound glorious.

What a keepsake from your father. The old trumpet. I would love to go back in time and listen to him play.

My friend wasn't interested in the candlelabra so I unscrewed them and my son took it back to the Netherlands. My Dad was super talented, his favourite genre was jazz;) I miss those coastal drives!

I looove baking and love eating sweets just as much, but I'm on diet now, so no sweets (after 2 weeks, I had a bite of 80% cocoa chocolate and didn't even like it).

Music! I always wanted to play the piano, but my parents didn't let me. This way I don't play any instruments.

I have always admired you for the many things you do and for being a beautiful soul, but now i admire you more. Don't change please 😘

I've hardly baked since moving but although I gave away a ton of things, I held onto the baking pans. I'm having to be so careful with sweet treats because it aggravates my asthma so I've had to slow down!
You're very kind @erikah, and I say "ditto".
