Gift from the Heart - You'll never Walk Alone

So it was my birthday yesterday, and I did not feel like celebrating. As corny as it sounds, I do believe age is but a number - except for the creaky bones!
I usually do something special, but as said, I was not in a birthday mood at all. The second one without hubby.

The night before my birthday, I was chatting to a good friend I met on Hive, and did not mention anything about birthdays. My morose mood was lifted after the chat. Later that night, just past midnight, I checked my email before turning off my computer.
Without realizing it, my friend had given me a wonderful birthday present. There was something special waiting for me in my inbox. I only then told @ericvancewalton about my birthday.

That is an awesome bit of serendipity there, Lizelle! That makes me happy. Happiest of birthdays to you!

My good mood changed when I woke up yesterday, and I could not turn the outside light off. The plastic button on the light switch had cracked!
Off to the electrical supply store I went. They're electrical contractors, and the little store is just a way of getting rid of excess supplies. The owner's wife works there and is very chatty.
She'll easily beat me in a Chat Marathon if ever such an event had to take place ;)
Our conversation somehow veered to celebrations, and I told her it's my birthday. She found the light switch I needed, and when I took my card out to pay, she told me to put it away; there was no charge. Did I hear right? She came from behind the counter, gave me a big hug, wished me happy birthday, and told me she was giving it to me because it was my birthday. The unexpected kind gesture from a total stranger touched my heart, and I had to wipe away the tears.

My young bestie fractured her ankle a while back, so she can't drive. I, in turn can only drive short distances because of an injured knee, so her son dropped her off and we went to a nearby coffee shop. I ordered Lemon Meringue Pie, and Chococinno, I needed to indulge!

The pie was enormous, so I had the rest today while binge-watching the Norwegian dramedy series Pernille. Another surprise. The Liverpool song You'll Never Walk Alone was played in the episode today!

When home alone on a Saturday, I sometimes turn the television on to the football channel while I'm busy doing stuff around the house. It's the background sounds I used to hear when hubby was alive, and I find it comforting. I sometimes watched the big matches with him, or when his team, Liverpool, was playing. And, I'd make sure I was there at the start of a home game to hear the fans sing You'll Never Walk Alone.

This ended in a sobbing session, but, that's what grief is like. Catches you when you least expect it!

My birthday ended with a lovely surprise when another good Hive friend, @papilloncharity, and his dear wife, Marian, called last night to wish me a happy birthday.

A lovely end to my birthday, although it still is bittersweet without my love.

I'm just one year older, and am thankful for good friends, in RL and here on Hive!

That's the thing about grief, it never goes away. It may become more bearable over time, but it stays with us. Life will still give you reasons to celebrate life! Belated happy birthday! 🥳

Happy belated birthday Lizzie.
You should be watching the scenes right now as Liverpool are parading the trophy first time for 35 years or something to a live crowd as it was covid and no crowds when they finally won after decades.

I can imagine the excitement, Arthur would have been over the moon when they won! He used to get so upset, often said 'they had most of the game just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net'. Or very dejected when they played badly. He was a very loyal supporter😍
Thank you so much for the good wishes Ed🤗

Yeah it ia the beautiful game after all. Pure elation when it goes your way and utter dejection when it doesn't🤣

I'm still upset that I missed it. So true though, it's always nice when you win!

Dear Lizzie, once again Happy Belated Birthday.
There are days that are a merry-go-round of emotions and it is so easy to go from laughing to crying and back again. I'm glad you had some nice birthday surprises in the most unexpected way.

Take care of your knee, I hope it gets better soon. And that Lemon Meringue Pie gave me a craving, hehe.

Big hugs 😘💕

Hi Eli, I've been eyeing lemon meringue pies wherever I've gone lately, and this time gave in to the temptation, but gosh, it was huge, and delish as well😉
I think the knee is finally responding to physio.
Thank you for the warm wishes, a big hug back to you💞
