Three Tune Tuesday - Soundtrack albums and favourite hot springs poll draw

Today my friend messaged me and said she went to a festival over the weekend and watched Sting perform. Despite being 72, she said Sting put on a brilliant performance. This has inspired me to do a Three Tune Tuesday post, it's been ages since I've done one. However, none of the three tunes I present today is from Sting 😊

Call Me

My friend said that Debby Harry from Blondie was also performing at the same festival but she didn't realise that Blondie sang Call Me. This is the main soundtrack from American Gigolo starring the ever so lush Richard Gere. I've never seen the film before, but American Gigolo was one of the first LP I ever bought. As soon as my friend mentioned Call Me this morning, Snowpea helped me to dig this out from my box of vinyls.

I love Call Me, it's such a great pick me up song, both literally and physically. The song is over 40 years old, but even listening to it now, it still feels very contemporary. I have been listening to it all day.

I just called to say I love you

As I was digging through my box of vinyls, I found another soundtrack album. This one is from The Woman in Red, another film that I haven't watched before. I probably bought this album because of the main soundtrack, I Just Called to Say I Love you by Stevie Wonder.

The lyrics are so simple and soothing, yet impactful. It's a truly classic romantic song, and I think it will melt everyone's hearts if they pick up the phone to hear this from their loved ones.

The Sound of Music

I wanted to keep to the theme of soundtrack albums for this post, dug deep in my box and finally found this. This is truly classic, who hasn't heard of The Sound of Music?

This vinyl is very old, and I'm pretty sure I didn't buy it. Not sure how it came to my possession, it might have belonged to my family members and and got mixed up with my stuff as we were moving around. Based on my internet research, this was released in 1963 and for you music lovers out there, you may recognise the old His Master's Voice trademark of Nipper, the dog listening to a gramaphone. This is the HMV as we know today.

Over the years, I've lost count of how many times I've watched The Sound of Music, it's always on replay on TV. The film has so many songs that are very catchy and I'm always singing along when I watch it. It's so rare for me that I know nearly all the songs in a film and it's very difficult to choose one out of them all. Let me know, what's your favourite song the The Sound of Music?

Favourite Hot Spring poll

A few weeks ago I did a post asking people which were their favorite hot springs from Yellowstone, and mentioned there may be a surprise for one voter.

Snowpea suggested that we could do a little draw and award a 10 Hive prize to one winner. She helped me to add all 19 voters to an online tool ....

Nice selection of songs! My favorites are either Do Re Mi or My Favorite Things. Those two are just classic and probably the most well known I would guess.

Yay what a fun post. It is so fun to see all your collections. Sound of Music is my favorite! I can sing every song. What one is my favorite? Oh that is hard. Right now, I would say Edelweiss and how sweet it was that the dad sang it for his children.

You putting all these songs reminded me of Photo Games.

We bought a music box when we were in Austria for honeymoon and it had Edelweiss on it, it always brings back lovely memories when I wind it up

It seems that you have a whole collection of vinyls ;D

How nice picks for your Three Tunes Tuesday. Your birds probably sing during the whole day now 😉

My favourite track from The Sound of Music is My Favourite Things 🎶

I had to stop playing Call Me as they got very excited, now a lot calmer when I play the Sound of Music 😀

How amazing it would be to see Sting sing live, it must be unforgettable.

From the movie The Sound of Music the song I like the most is My favorite things.

I was pleasantly surprised to have won the draw 🤩. Thanks to you and Snopea 🤗

That's what my friend said as well, at 72 years old, I don't think he will be doing many more live performances, and she was very happy she went to the festival especially since she was visiting UK.

I have just transferred the winnings to you, apologies for the delay

Wow, well done you for keeping all your old LP's, I wish I had kept mine, they be worth a few quid now!

Have to say sound of Music is one of my fav. films, vague memories of a family holiday in Brighton I think it was and an evening at the cinema. probably hared it then!

But it is now a xmas staple along with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye in White Christmas.

Best song? Christopher Plummer singing Edelweiss, when all the family join in. Heart of stone if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye.

My LPs have been in family storage, then to Taiwan and back again, like photo albums I held in to them as many have special memories. I just need to get a turntable now do I can listen to them again. They sound so much better with the imperfection, the occasional scratching noises.

Heart of stone if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye.

I'm getting to know another side of you today!

yes it would be a shame not to play them again. I used to love the covers of the LP's , reading all the details and looking at the art work, downloads dont have that!

My former boss used to say I was quirky, and to never change. LOL

I have a funny story about "I Just Called to Say I Love You." I was at a friend's house who was giving my three oldest children piano lessons (so we were there for a while). The phone rang a couple, but she won't answer it when she is giving lessons. Then it would ring, stop, and immediately start ringing again, a few times in a row. I told her I'd answer it for her.

When I did, her husband starting singing, "I just called to say I love you..." I told him that I thought he wanted to sing that to his wife. He immediately thought he dialed the wrong number, since he had just tried to call me at home to ask a question. He thought he had hit redial instead of his home number. He was all flustered. I started laughing and as he kept apologizing, I told his wife what happened and she couldn't stop laughing. She came to the phone and he finally realized he called the right number, and that he was now the object of all the laughter.

We laughed so hard after that call, and then the kids found out and, well, we had longer piano lessons than we thought we'd have.

Awhh!! That's so sweet of him, did he continue to sing to your friend after his little mishap? Hope he wasn't embarrassed by all this continues to call his wife with surprises.

No, he still calls her like, but we all had a big laugh. Every so often, when that song is mentioned, I think of this funny situation.

Nice choices! Franz Ferdinand also does a bang up cover of Call Me:

I have ceramic Nippers!

Oh wow what a lovely set of songs and all of them bring back memories from the good old days of film and music. The halcyon era I guess for many of us Gen-X folks.

I’m going to have a go soon at writing a Three Song thingy-me-bob because I’ve got back into collecting records, I miss the slow days where you’d have to go to a store, flick through some albums, select two or three, buy them and just sit comfortably by the turntable and HiFi system, letting the music flow around you.

Ok my setup for now is a turntable, sampler and two studio monitor speakers but it works well for me.
