A road trip and some random memories
Last week I went on a roadtrip to Cornwall, in the south west tip of England. It's normally a very nice part of England where many Brits go for holiday. Unfortunately there was a storm on the day we were due to leave home so we delayed our departure to the next day. The following few days weren't much better either and we hardly saw a ray of sunshine during our whole roadtrip. Overall, a pants roadtrip to be honest. Luckily I still have some good content that I will share... when I get round to it.

In the meantime, here's my Three Tune Tuesday for this week, albeit a day late.
Phil Collins - In the air tonight
The first commercial TV station in the UK was launched 70 years ago and during those decades there have been many iconic adverts. Initially most adverts take a direct approach, throwing the product straight in viewers face, often accompanied by a jingle or slogan. Then adverts became more sophisticated, sometimes the product itself wasn't the core focus and pop music was often used to help with this.
A great example dates back to 2007, when In the air tonight by Phil Collins was used in a Cadbury Gorilla advert. If you're familiar with this song you'll know that it starts off slow, full of emotion and anticipation, and then you have the iconic drum break. So where does the gorilla come into all this? All I can say, the advert is pure genius and remains one of the most iconic adverts on British TV. Btw, do you know what the product is being advertised?
Rose Royce - Wishing on a star
We were driving around in the windy weather last week, listening to the radio as you would when you're stuck inside a car. The great thing about this is that you end up listening to a lot of random songs. One that came up as a nice surprise, was one that I liked very much and hadn't listened to for a long time. I wanted to include it in my TTT this week, but guess what? I forgot what the song was!! I'll know it when I hear it, but if I can't find it I don't know what it is. Bit of a conundrum. So I turned to the GGG - Great Google God 😀 I remember roughly the date and time when it was played and looked online for the playlist for the radio station.
Ta da!!!!
Lewis Capaldi - Something on the heaven
I don't often include new songs in my TTT, not sure why to be honest. A few days ago, I heard one on the radio and it sort of stuck with me. Lewis Capaldi is a brilliant artist, and I'm warming up to his latest song. It's a little sad but a beautiful way to remember someone we lost. If you have that person out there, I hope they can hear it when you do.
I agree Lewis Capaldi is quite something! Thanks for this, I didn't know it! As for the weather - yikes. Still. I guess sometimes it's finding a way to enjoy a trip when it goes precisely the opposite of what you expected!
The weather is one thing we can never control when we go away, so we just need to embrace it, all part of the fun!
Good morning,
The ad is about a chocolate, 🤤 Hahaha... I love cool ads like that. In my college days, we had a subject that I loved because we visualized a lot of cool commercials and thought about scripts to make our own.
Nothing, not a day later, can stop you from sharing a TTT. And this one awakened in you the 🤣.... inspector LUT.
Good songs! I like them all.
That sounds like a fun subject at college, and to see what creativity every one comes up with from the same advert.
Many old songs also reenterd the top 40 through marketing either by commercial or movie , strange how that works sometimes.
best example i could find so fast :
Ah! What a beautiful song, it never goes out of date no matter when you listen to it.
Yes, there's been many of these songs re-entering the charts again in recent years, another one was the final dance scene from the movie Saltburn, everyone who's watches the movie remembers that 😁
I guess i have to see Saltburn now 😂
Lewis Capaldi is pretty amazing. The fact that Cornwall was rainy and wet fits with the stereotype I would have of the area having never been there. I'm sure it's not always like that, but like I said, it fits with what you might picture in your head.
Normally Cornwall is much nicer because it's further down south and the coastal villages are gorgeous in the summer. We were quite unlucky and caught a bad week with the storm, I blame it on my mother in law (It was my husbands birthday 😁). This week it's much nicer
Haha, that makes sense!
That first ad is fantastic. I can see why it's one of the most iconic adverts on UK TV. Those are my favorite kinds of ads, the ones that just try to be memorable and don't even mention the product until just briefly at the end.
It's a great tactic, the less you push the product in people's face, but make them remember it in some other random way, the more successful it can be.
Oh so sad that it was rainy for your Cornwall trip. I am excited to see your post. I need to work on mine. I have so many to work on. :) I watched the gorilla commercial and can see how it is iconic. I also really like Lewis Capaldi!
Just our luck, to go when we had a storm coming. Plus it was high tide all week, not the best time to go on a coastal holiday.
Th dairy milk gorilla never fails to bring a smile to my face. Also love the videos of people trying to slam doors or other objects to the same beats
I admire how creative the advertising agencies are, sometimes the ads are as good as movies. I guess VC everyone will be looking out for the Christmas ads soon!
Lewis Capaldi is one of Mrs T's favourite singers. He supports the enemy football team so I don't like but admit he is a great musician, and shows the new age as he got his fame all on his own efforts.
