Cher's Christmas Album
One of the first Cher songs I heard was Believe -- when I was just starting middle school. At that time, I didn’t really care for the song and couldn’t understand why it was so popular. Now, when the song comes on the radio, I absolutely love it because of the appreciation I’ve developed for this iconic singer over the years. I’ve always been fascinated with celebrities who go by one name, like Oprah and Madonna. Even people like Reba Mcentire can go by just Reba on her television show; you say the name and everyone knows who you’re talking about. Another example is Martha --- you know who I’m talking about, right? Martha Stewart, of course. I look up to these celebrities because this eponymous quality says they’ve created a huge brand for themselves.
About two weeks ago, Cher released her first-ever Christmas album. I think most would find this surprising considering how long she’s been incredibly famous. I’m curious how many times she heard people say “you should really do a Christmas album!” until she finally decided to do it.
You can purchase the album, and Target even has their own signature cover. But, you can also listen to it for free on YouTube, if you don’t mind the commercials. It’s an interesting album because of the variety it offers. Some of the songs are classic Christmas songs sung in Cher’s distinctly low, yet powerful, voice. Then there’s some brand new hits such as the catchy, upbeat Drop Top Sleigh Ride, Featuring Tyga. I’m already imagining this song playing in all the retail stores this Christmas season. DJ Play a Christmas Song and Angels in the Snoware new Cher originals that resemble the electropop style of Believe. There’s duets with Cyndi Lauper, Darlene Love, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Bublé. Cher does a duet with Michael Bublé of his top hit Home. This song isn’t originally written as a Christmas song, but this duet puts a Christmas spin on it. I think Please Come Home for Christmas is one of my favorites because it’s a classic Christmas song sung in classic Cher voice.
So is Cher’s Christmas album worth checking out? Absolutely -- and I think many people agree with me. It’s already leading in the number one spot on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums Chart.
